Motorland Aragon is hosting round five of the Supersport world championship, which got underway today. Round four played out at the same Spanish circuit just last weekend. The two #kawasakipuccettiracing riders were out on track for the first free practice this morning. A crash during his first lap, fortunately without physical consequences, caused #lucasmahias to lose a great deal of time, but although he was only able to complete seven laps, he scored the third fastest time, a 1'54"661. #philippoettl closed in eighth place, with a time of 1'55"363.
The second practice ran in the afternoon in much hotter temperatures. On the slippery track, neither rider was able to improve on their earlier times. In the combined standings at the end of day one, Mahias closed in third place, Oettl ninth.
Tomorrow's final practice will be followed by the Superpole and the first of the weekend's two races.

"My lap time was good today but we didn't find a setting that allowed me to be consistently fast. Unfortunately, compared to last weekend, the bike is behaving very differently, and we don't understand why. In tomorrow morning's FP3, with cooler temperatures than what we had this afternoon, we'll try to solve the problem so we can do well in Superpole and particularly in the race."
"My position in the standings isn't good but it was very hot this afternoon and we preferred to focus on race pace rather than flying lap times. We made many changes to be bike to try and improve my feeling. Also, once I put the fresh tyres in, I came across a lot of traffic and that slowed me down. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the work the team and I have done and in tomorrow's Superpole we'll try to improve on our position in order to start the race close to the front of the grid."
