Mahias Ready To Race Again

As Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s Can Öncü continues to recover from a recent arm injury former World Champion and Kawasaki Puccetti rider #lucasmahias will compete for the team in what is their true home round at the #misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli.

Öncü was particularly unfortunate to have been injured during the Assen round in late April, shortly after his breakthrough #WorldSSP race win at Mandalika in March.

Misano will be the second 2023 #WorldSSP round in which Mahias has returned to his recent #WorldSSP and WorldSBK team set up, having competed for the team at the most recent Catalunya #Event.

At #misano, Mahias will again ride an updated #WorldSSP version of the Ninja ZX-6R that he won four #WorldSSP races with across the 2019 and 2020 seasons, before he moved up to the WorldSBK category with the Puccetti team for two seasons.

With little time to prepare for his #WorldSSP comeback race in Catalunya, Lucas scored a 16th and then 13th place last time out, with both rider and team out for even better results at #misano.

Lucas Mahias, stated: “I’m really pleased to continue with Manuel Puccetti’s team, but I hope Can returns as soon as possible. I know that this is the team’s home round and so I’ll do all I can to score the best possible results in front of our sponsors and supporters. We’ll continue with the work we began at Barcelona and we try to exploit the full potential of the bike.”

John McPhee (Vince64 by Puccetti #racing Kawasaki) will take part in his fifth ever #WorldSSP race weekend, having already stood on the podium after a wet season-opening race in Australia, way back in February.

Adrian Huertas (MTM Kawasaki) is in race mode again and looking to make up for lost time due to an early season injury in Australia.

Tom Booth-Amos (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) has been making his presence felt in the #WorldSSP Challenge since his first race at Assen, in the class-within-a-class for teams who only participate in the European rounds of the championship. Tom Leads the #WorldSSP Challenge points ranking, having scored points in all four races.

Luke Power (Motozoo ME AIR #racing Kawasaki) and Yuta Okaya (Prodina Kawasaki Racing) are also #WorldSSP Challenge riders, still finding their feet in the early part of in their rookie #WorldSSP seasons.

In the championship standings, after four rounds and eight races, Can is the highest placed Kawasaki rider in eighth place, with McPhee 13th and Huertas 14th.

Free Practice at #misano takes place on Friday 2 June. Superpole qualifying and then Race One are scheduled for Saturday 3 June. Race Two, on Sunday 4 June, will wrap-up the #WorldSSP action before the sixth round takes place at Donington Park in the UK, between June 30 and July 1-2.
