Only 11 thousandths separate Baldassarri from victory in Race 1 at Portimao, good comeback for Sebestyen

Exciting Saturday for the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team, which took a splendid 2nd place thanks to #lorenzobaldassarri, at the end of an eventful race. Precious points also for #petersebestyen, 14th at the finish.

The day opened with Superpole. Baldassarri immediately moved into the top positions, but a crash in turn 8 in the final minutes prevented him from further improving his time, so he had to deal with eighth place. A touch of bad luck for Sebestyen as well, who due to traffic on his final fast lap was unable to do better than P17.

At 16.15 (Italian time) the lights went out for Race 1, reduced to 12 laps due to delays caused by a serious accident in Supersport 300. Baldassarri made a good start, immediately finding a place in the leading group. With class and intelligence the Italian rider gained positions lap after lap, arriving on the last lap to play for the victory: thanks to a fantastic last sector Lorenzo got closer to the leader Manzi, finishing the race 2nd by just 11 thousandths. A fabulous performance by the number 7, who was fast despite his crash in Superpole.

Positive race also for #petersebestyen, author of an encouraging comeback. In fact, after starting from P17, the Hungarian rider immediately managed to enter the points zone, to conquer the 14th final position.

Tomorrow the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team will be back on track. At 10.25 (Italian time) Baldassarri and Sebestyen will be in action for the warmnup, while at 13.30 the lights will go out for Race 2.

Lorenzo Baldassarri:
"It wasn't easy to manage the race, given the presence of so many different bikes. The team prepared a great bike for me, with which I was able to be fast despite the mistake in Superpole. This 2nd place is of great value: tomorrow we want to achieve even more".

Peter Sebestyen:
"In the first few laps I struggled, but then I got into a rhythm and made up positions. 14th position is not the result we were looking for, but the work done today can undoubtedly come in handy tomorrow".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal): "I'm very happy with Lorenzo's race, who despite the crash in Superspole was able to give everything in the race, getting a podium that, also by virtue of Aegerter's result, gives us a big boost in the overall standings. Peter made a good comeback, which from a morale point of view will certainly help him in view of tomorrow's race".
