Fantastic second place for Baldassarri in race 2 at Assen. Sebestyen forced to forfeit the race for physical reasons

It was a mixed bag of emotions for the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team, who were able to celebrate another podium finish on Sunday at #assen, with #lorenzobaldassarri taking a fabulous second place in race 2.

At the same time, however, the Ravenna-based team must record the non-participation of #petersebestyen, who was deemed unfit after medical examination of the left shoulder this morning. Sebestyen will undergo further medical checks in the coming days, which will determine the best course of treatment and recovery time.

Day 3 on Dutch soil began with a warm-up session, with only Baldassarri on track to make final adjustments to his Yamaha YZF-R6 ahead of race 2. The Italian rider completed six laps, obtaining ninth position in the classification. Late in the morning the lights went out for Race 2, with Baldassarri making a positive move from sixth to third.

In the following laps Lorenzo caught up with the momentary race leader Oncu, taking the lead. In the second half of the race the number 7 moved into second place, intelligently managing the drop in tyres and his own position until the chequered flag. This was Baldassarri's third podium finish in four races.

At the end of this second round of the season Lorenzo occupies second place in the overall standings, with 30 points, while Peter is in 22nd position with two points. In the team standings the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team is second, with a total of 67 points. The next round of the World Supersport Championship will take place over the weekend of 22 May, at the Estoril circuit in Portugal.

Race 2 results #NLDWorldSBK
P1 - Dominique Aegerter (Yamaha)
P2 - #lorenzobaldassarri (Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team, Yamaha)
P3 - Can Oncu (Kawasaki)
P4 - Nicolò Bulega (Ducati)
P5 - Hannes Soomer (Triumph)

Lorenzo Baldassarri: "Today it was important to get a positive result, given the unfortunate crash yesterday. I tried with all my might to win, but Aegerter was very fast: unfortunately I lost time fighting with Bulega, and the gap created in the meantime was decisive. At the end of the race I also took a couple of risks, which convinced me that second place was the best possible result. I'm very happy and I really thank the team for their great work over the weekend".

Peter Sebestyen:
"Watching the race on TV was really painful, but I think not #racing was the right choice. Now the best thing is to quickly figure out the next steps to take, to get back in the best condition quickly".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal):
"We are very happy with the splendid podium obtained by Baldassarri, who immediately redeemed himself after yesterday's crash. The team worked well, as did Lorenzo, who managed the various phases of the race in the right way. As far as Peter is concerned, we are obviously very sorry, but we are also eager to see him back on track as soon as possible".
