The #guggenheimmuseumbilbao presents today the eighth video in the digital initiative #GuggenheimBilbaoInsights, a series of videos organized by the Curatorial Department of the Museum where curators talk with artists whose work is represented in the Museum Collection.
In this interview, renowned artist Jeff Koons discusses his most iconic works with our curator #geaninnegutierrezguimaraes, along with concepts like acceptance, optimism, and the belief in not making judgments, present in his work. The interview takes place at Koons’s studio in New York.
They begin by talking about Puppy, the flower-covered terrier that has been guarding the entrance to the #guggenheimmuseumbilbao since 1997: “At first, the idea was just celebrating plant art and making a sculpture with a spiritual purpose, like a church or a cathedral—a place where #people could gather and discuss transcendental issues.” Then the interview moves on to Tulips, a work in the Celebration series that reflects the artist’s connection to childhood elements.
In the course of the interview, Koons talks about his interest in ready-mades, as well as in experiments with materials, shapes, and scale, which have resulted in amazing, stimulating, high-spirited artworks.
The video is available on the Museum website and social media: YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
The schedule of the next upcoming video is:
September 2021: Aitor Ortiz and Marta Blavia
