Salon: Jeff Koons

The latest edition of #whitecube Salon focuses on Jeff Koon’s sculpture Bowl with Eggs (Yellow) (1994 – 2009).

Conceived on a grand scale, Bowl with Eggs (Yellow) exemplifies the boundless artistic ambition and  vivacity synonymous with the sculptures of #jeffkoons, whose exaltations of the everyday have been instrumental in shaping the discourse of art from the late 20th century onwards. Bowl with Eggs (Yellow) is a quintessential example of Koons’s landmark ‘Celebration’ series, a body which to date comprises 32 paintings and sculptures. The series, which was begun in 1994 and is characterised by artworks of expansive proportions, seeks to capture and confer the wonder of childhood and attendant excitement engendered by annual festivities such as birthdays, Valentine’s Day and religious holidays.  In sculptures like Balloon Dog (1994–2000), Hanging Heart (1994–2006) and Tulips (1995–2004), Koons has created a lexicon of contemporary icons that have entered the public consciousness and resonate into the 21st century.
