An unlucky World SSP Superpole for Mahias and Okubo at Assen

The #assen TT Circuit in #thenetherlands was the setting for today's practice and Superpole making up round four of the Supersport world championship. Yesterday, the two Kawasaki Puccetti #racing riders #lucasmahias and #hikariokubo finished the practice sessions in third and sixth place respectively, working with their technical staff to find the best possible set-up for their bikes.

This morning, on a dry track but in very cold conditions, the third and final practice played out. Due to the weather conditions, neither rider improved on his times, and in the overall standings Mahias closed in fourth place, Okubo seventh.

The Superpole proved very unlucky for both the Kawasaki Puccetti #racing riders. Mid-session, Mahias had an engine problem and had to retire. Shortly after this, Okubo crashed when he ran over a patch of oil. The Japanese rider was unhurt but was unable to continue with his Superpole session, which was suspended with a red flag and then brought to a definitive close.

With the times recorded earlier in the Superpole, Okubo (1'38"724) scored fifth place, Mahias eighth (1'39"264). The Japanese rider will start tomorrow's 18-lap race from the second row, the Frenchman from the third.
