L'Acropolis Museum inizia una serie di mostre dedicate alla Grecia, in modo da portare eccezionali reperti archeologici dai musei di area locale ad Atene, perché possano essere presentati ad un vasto pubblico greco e straniero. La prima mostra dal titolo 'Samotracia. I misteri dei Grandi Dei' è organizzata in collaborazione con le Ephorates di Rodopi e Evros e l'esperto di antichità samotracie Dimitrios Matsas.
Il rapporto tra gli antichi greci e dei loro dei era ben noto ed esisteva pubblicamente nella vita quotidiana. Tuttavia, sin dai tempi remoti, i culti misterici hanno cominciato ad emergere come accessibili solo a coloro che erano stati ammessi ai riti seguendo alcune prove. I più famosi "Misteri" nell'antichità erano quelli di Eleusi e di Samotracia. Il divieto rigoroso della divulgazione del contenuto dei sacramenti non ha permesso a molte informazioni di essere raccolte sull’argomento.
