M-Sport fights back at Rally Estonia

M-Sport #ford World #rally Team battled through a tough #rally Estonia with the pairing of local hero Ott Tänak and French youngster Pierre Louis-Loubet.
Claiming a total of six stage wins across the weekend, Tänak put on a great show of pace and entertainment for his home crowd, despite unfortunately being hampered with a five minute time penalty following an engine change before the start of the event.
The Estonian crew of Tänak and Järveoja were determined to show their grit and determination after the penalty was issued and pull themselves as far back up the overall standings as possible.
Claiming fastest on the opening stage, plus five out of the seven stages on Friday, the pair were on excellent form and once again exemplified the capabilities of the #ford Puma Rally1. By the end of the day Tänak had clawed back enough time to easily achieve his goal of a top-ten finish.
Combined with consistent speed throughout Saturday and Sunday, Tänak battled up to an impressive eighth place overall coupled with an additional two Power Stage points from the final stage of the event.
Pierre-Louis Loubet also enjoyed huge support from the Estonian crowds over the weekend as the Frenchman put on an impressive showing on the high-speed and technical stages. Loubet delivered a very consistent pace that improved throughout the course of the weekend, finding himself in a very close battle for sixth overall. The fight would come right down to the final stage where a fantastic effort from the young Frenchman saw him clinch the position by just 0.4 seconds from Takamoto Katsuta.
Often posting times close to his teammate's, Loubet's performance on a very demanding event was a great boost in confidence heading into the next event of the series in only ten days' time.
Richard Millener, Team Principal, said:
"Of course we are all really disappointed. To start the weekend with a five minute penalty is really a disaster, but we have to just take the penalty and look for other positives from the weekend. For me, there were a few, Ott's pace and commitment on Friday was fantastic and seeing him get back to the top 10 in 1.5 days was incredibly impressive. There are still changes we need to work on going forward but I hope the speed shown can help us in Finland in 10 days time. For Pierre-Louis, it was exactly the result he needed, showing his capabilities and speed and winning the battle for sixth on the final stage was the icing on the cake of his weekend.
"I would like to take this chance to personally thank all of the Estonian fans for supporting Ott, Martin and the team over this tricky weekend. This event is really fantastic and genuinely one of my favorites of the year, such passionate and knowledgeable fans along with some fantastic stages. It should be the blueprint for all WRC events. I really hope to be back here again soon."
Pierre-Louis Loubet, Sixth Overall, said:
"I think in general we can be happy about our pace, especially when you compare to last year. We made some good steps, and some stages we were very close to Ott, and I know Ott is using the full potential of the car. For me it's a very good comparison, he's the best kind of driver on these rallies."
Ott Tӓnak, Eighth Overall, said:
"Reaching the top eight was the target, and we achieved that. I would say our strength came from the small #rally we did in Estonia last week, we were already in a high speed rhythm compared to everyone else. It was clear to see how our one-day #rally experience before made our speed better. But it was a fun weekend and we've had a nice experience with the fans.
"I would say we are at maximum capacity at the minute. For sure, Finland is very specific so we will do a one-day test to do a bit of fine-tuning, but there aren't any plans for big changes."
