F1 goes ‘Down Under’: Race 3 of the 2023 season in Melbourne
The third fixture on this season’s calendar takes the #f1 teams to Albert Park in #melbourne. This weekend’s
Australian Grand Prix will be the 37th in the history of the top echelon of motorsport and the 26th to be hosted by
Melbourne. Eleven of the previous Grands Prix were held on a street circuit in Adelaide (1985 - 1995). Michael
Schumacher, winner on four occasions in #melbourne, holds the record for the most victories in this event. Lewis
Hamilton has meanwhile won two races at Albert Park (2008, 2015). The most successful team on Australian soil is McLaren with a grand total of eleven victories, ahead of Ferrari on ten. The Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS #f1 Team has won the race four times so far (2014, 2015, 2016, 2019). With the track having been reconfigured ahead of last year’s Grand Prix, the fastest race lap (1:20.260 minutes, Charles Leclerc) and the absolute lap record (1:17.868 minutes, Charles Leclerc, Q3) were both set in the previous season. The 5.278 km track variant will be used again this year, complete with four DRS zones. Last year, the fourth DRS zone between Turns 8 and 9 was removed following Friday practice.
Three Mercedes-AMG GT3s in GT3-Am Top Three in the 24H SERIES
The Mercedes-AMG Customer #racing teams monopolised the podium in their class in the 12-hour race at the
Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello. Roman De Angelis (CAN), Ian James (GBR) and Gray Newell (USA) in the #27 Heart of #racing by SPS Mercedes-AMG GT3 delivered an excellent performance in the two-part 24H SERIES race, securing third place overall and victory in the GT3-Am category. Michael Kroll, Chantal Prinz (both SUI), Alexander Prinz and Carsten Tilke (both GER) of Hofor #racing were runners-up in class. Jean-Luc Beaubelique, Jérôme
Policand, Benjamin Ricci (all FRA) and Mauro Ricci (ITA) in the number 88 AKKODIS ASP Mercedes-AMG GT3 took P3 to make it an all-AMG podium. Meanwhile, there was a one-two finish to celebrate in the GT4 class: Roelof Bruins (NED), Steven Cho (CAN) and Jong Kyum Kim (KOR) of Atlas BX Motorsports won ahead of fellow Mercedes drivers Aliyyah Koloc, Adam Lacko and David Vrsecký (all CZE) of Buggyra ZM #racing.

British Endurance Championship: Team Blackthorn won the season opener of the British Endurance Championship. Claude Bovet (SUI) and David McDonald (GBR) sharing the cockpit of the number 19 Mercedes-AMG GT3 took first place at Silverstone. Two Mercedes-AMG GT4s also made it into the Top Three in their class: Venture Motorsport’s Matt George (AUS), Chris and Neville Jones (both GBR) took the runner-up spot in the GT4 category ahead of the third-placed Breakell #racing duo of Tom Jackson and Ameerh Naran (both GBR).
