TON is expanding the popular 822 and P.O.V. collections.

After last year’s debut, the 822 Collection of chairs, by Claesson Koivisto Rune, returns to centre stage. Now a new version is available with the striking dot perforations, the distinctive twist on Josef Hoffmann’s A811 designed in 1930. Together with TON, the Swedish studio have created an upholstered version for this year’s Salone del Mobile. The time has also come to expand the P.O.V. Collection, by German studio kaschkasch: it now has three versions of the coffee table. The 811 lounge chair with a cane weave or upholstery has also been added to our portfolio. All the new items will be available to view for the first time at Salone del Mobile, from 18 to 23 April 2023. TON will this year be located at Stand D20 in Hall 10, as part of S.Project.

The 822 Collection, and its distinctive pattern, has become and will remain iconic. By developing a version with an upholstered frame,  we can provide not only a softer version suitable for situations requiring greater comfort, we can also add character by creating a family,” says Claesson Koivisto Rune. “The dot perforations were never the 822’s sole highlight. Since its inception, we have attempted to create a contemporary chair that summed up the essence of the classic A 811. The upholstered 822 is a logical addition,” adds the trio of Swedish designers.

The idea for the 822 Collection, first exhibited in 2022, was originally conceived on the basis of Claesson Koivisto Rune’s wish to create a limited-edition series for the interior of a new family restaurant in the former Norwegian stock exchange building. They approached TON with their idea, a variation on the classic model, which TON liked so much that the decision was made to transform it into an expanded, mass-produced collection. “Many iconic designs from history were actually produced initially for a specific architectural project. I think it is much better to #design a product for some specific project, because you think about it differently,” Eero Koivisto explains.

The 822 product family, which consists of a chair, armchair, low and high barstools, stools and a lounge chair both with and without armrests, combines the use of shaped plywood and hand-bent solid beech wood. To ensure the utmost comfort when seated, the upholstered version utilises an ingenious structure with straps attached to the seat. The models can be colour-finished with stains or pigments, or the natural character can be retained with lacquer or oil. “It’s been a long time since we had such positive feedback on one of our designs, if ever. This makes us certain that the 822 Collection can expect a long life. In short, we are very proud,” Claesson Koivisto Rune states, summarising the previous year.

The shape of their 822 lounge chair has even expanded the 811 product family. The 811 lounge chair takes inspiration from the 822’s lines and is likewise available with or without armrests. Instead of perforations, however, it has an upholstered seat and backrest, or a cane weave, or a combination of the two.

The P.O.V. coffee tables, by German studio Kaschkasch, are a new addition to the modular table of the same name, which was launched in 2021. The name refers to the organic table leg, which has a rounded triangular form, giving it a unique appearance from every point of view. “This collection’s character comes from the materials used and the appearance of the leg, which is composed of three bent plywood sheets in the same shape, and forms the basis of an entire family of tables,” explained designer Florian Kallus. The three new options are no different, but they are suitable for private interiors and lounge zones. “We took the shape of the base and created a coffee table from it. I think it’s entirely logical to add it to the collection, and it’s also an essential step,” Kallus added. Overall, the collection comprises dozens of different options, and can also be accessorised by a stackable stool with the same name.

The low tables come in three heights, which can be combined with each other – 55 cm, 45 cm and 42 cm. The tallest, number 473, has a fixed top diameter of 52 cm, but a choice of diameter is available for the smaller options. The lowest P.O.V. coffee table, the 474, is available in diameters of 80, 90 and 100 cm. A choice of 110, 120 and 130 cm is available for the middle one (the 475). The tables, which can be accessorised with electric sockets and IPAN IPAN wireless charging, are made from three types of wood – oak, beech and American walnut. Lacquer and oil are the only finishes available, except for the multiplex tabletop, which can also be coloured with a stain or pigment.

All the new models will be exhibited at the Salone del Mobile in Milan, which will take place between 18 and 23 April 2023. The TON stand, D20, will on this occasion be located in Hall 10, which is dedicated to the new S.Project concept. This is a new space within the exhibition devoted to the essence of #design products and decorative or technical solutions in #interiordesign. TON products will also be on display in the centre of Milan, at Via Tortona 31, as well as at the fair. TON has joined the Terra project by Archiproducts, curated by Studio Pepe. The concept is inspired by our natural connection to the earth. The showroom will be open from 18 to 23 April 2023, 10:00–20:00.

TON

In 1861, a bentwood furniture factory commenced operations in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, and now it is the oldest of its type in the world. Then the unusual system of industrial organisation of work and the possibilities offered by the unique technology helped bentwood furniture to expand around the globe. After a change in ownership structures, TON has continued to follow the principles of manual work, handed down from one generation to the next, and its functional connection with timeless #design. It focuses on working with natural materials, products of structural and #design quality, to completely fulfil the company’s motto: “handcrafted for generations”.
