Copenhagen-based creative platform Raawii launches Cloud, a ceramics collection by designer Nicholai Wiig-Hansen exclusively at Selfridges London and Selfridges.com until the 12th June 2022

The collection is born from a personal experience of #nicholaiwiighansen, designer and #raawii co-founder. With #cloud he wanted to recreate the particular emotion he got when looking at one of his father’s sculptures (Danish sculptor Svend Wiig-Hansen). Born into a family of artists - his mother was a ceramicist – Nicholai developed a profound understanding of figures, further refined through his study of classical drawings by Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci. The collection shapes were crafted by hand, in many iterations, until they reached the expression and feeling he was looking for.
The name #cloud references the objects’ dreamy and seemingly changing quality, similar to the astral formations’. The three products – a large vase, a small vase and a centrepiece – seem to shift shape, depending on their play with light and shadow as well as the observer’s mindset. Hand-made, their charmingly imprecise silhouettes constantly reveal new patterns and angles.
The collection’s four colours draw on raawii’s established colour palette (vaporous gray, freesia yellow, smoke green), adding one new vibrant #cloud shade - sloe
green. The hues compliment the objects’ unique shapes, working just as well alone as in combination. As designer #nicholaiwiighansen shares: ”I live with the
prototypes in my home, before finally deciding to make them into actual designs.“
About raawii
raawii was founded in 2017 by Bo Raahauge Rasmussen and #nicholaiwiighansen and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The brand references the initials of their last names. Both founders - one designer and educator, the other an economist and development expert – share the curiosity to work with creatives of different backgrounds and a deep passion for turning ideas into reality. Their ambition is to build a #design platform using the power of creativity to contribute to cultural and social advancement.

About the designer
Nicholai Wiig-Hansen founded his own #design studio in 1990. Since then, he has continuously challenged himself and captivated the industry with a diverse
range of designs: from chairs and tables to lamps and vacuum jugs. The popular Jules desk chair and the PS Locker for IKEA, the Sintra table for Frama, the Night Owl lamp for Fritz Hansen, the Geo vacuum jug for Normann Copenhagen and the Strøm collection for #raawii count among his most notable designs. Archetypal products – with a twist. Proportions and colours are always carefully considered and details are only added if they serve a functional or aesthetic purpose.
