This is what happened: Results and facts

  • Formula E: After six races of the 2020/21 season, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team tops the team standings, with #nyckdevries and #stoffelvandoorne first and second in the drivers' championship

Portimão, here we come: Next weekend, #f1 returns to the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimão which will be hosting its second Portuguese Grand Prix. The highest echelon of the sport has previously been contested at Estoril (13 times), Porto (2) and Monsanto (1). Before making its comeback last year, the Portuguese Grand Prix had been absent from the calendar since the 1996 season. The 2020 #event was dominated by #lewishamilton, with the reigning and eventual world champion securing pole position, fastest race lap and victory. This 92nd Grand Prix success for Lewis also meant that he passed the previous tally of race wins held by record world championship winner Michael Schumacher. His team-mate #valtteribottas ensured a one-two finish for the team. Alain Prost and Nigel Mansell share the record for most wins in the Portuguese Grand Prix - three each - while Williams lead the way in the team stakes, with six victories to McLaren's three. Perhaps the most striking feature of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve are the differences in elevation - the 4.653 km track has multiple relatively steep ascents and descents. The race will be run over a distance of 66 laps.

#EarthDay2021: To mark Earth Day on Thursday 22 April, we reviewed the steps we have taken over the past year to drive change for a more sustainable future within our team and our sport. The team is now carbon neutral and we aim to cut CO2 emissions in half by 2022 compared to our 2018 baseline. We use renewable energy to power our Brackley factory, and both our Formula One and Formula E teams have also been awarded Three Star Accreditation, the highest level of certification in the FIA's flagship Environmental Accreditation Programme. At the same time, we have succeeded in economising on 3,000 kilos of air freight, issuing reusable drinking bottles to all employees and eliminating disposable plastic bottles for the most part at our factories and at the racetrack to the extent that COVID safety measures permit. In addition to these sustainability projects, our #f1 power unit continues to be a development laboratory for hybrid technologies which are steadily trickling down to the road car segment. Highs and lows in #valencia: Season 7 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship continues to resemble a rollercoaster ride after three completed race weekends. The Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team secured victory number three of the campaign on Saturday as the all-electric #racing series made its Spanish debut. Unfortunately, this was to be followed by disappointment in the second race on Sunday. But let's pick up the story from the beginning... Circuit Ricardo Tormo, located just outside #valencia, presented all the teams with a major challenge in terms of energy management. Together with their engineers, #nyckdevries and #stoffelvandoorne found the best solution on Saturday, which enabled them to progress from seventh and 24th on the grid to finish in first and third place respectively. On Sunday, however, luck deserted them. After a heroic charge through the field, Stoffel sustained suspension damage in a #racing incident and was forced to retire. Meanwhile, Nyck was unable to finish any higher than 16th. Despite Sunday's setback, the team leaves #valencia leading both championships. After six races of the 2020/21 season, the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team is on 105 points and leads the team standings by a 23-point margin over Jaguar #racing (82 points). Nyck (57 points) and Stoffel (48 points) have now moved up to first and second place in the drivers' standings. The team has come away from the first three race weekends in Diriyah, Rome and #valencia with a win on each - despite different track characteristics and conditions - and is the only outfit to have won more than one race this season. However, the ups and downs of this rollercoaster ride continue to present the team with many challenges, the next of which awaits them in just a week and a half on 8 May on the streets of the Principality of Monaco.

Hectic 12-hour race for Customer #racing teams: The third round of the #24hseries turned out to be a hard slog for the pit crews of Customer #racing teams SPS #automotive performance and MP #racing. In the 12-hour race at the Circuit Paul Ricard, the two cars were involved in collisions as early as the start. Despite the initial setback, the number 20 Mercedes-AMG GT3 entered by SPS #automotive performance was still within striking distance of the podium places at the halfway point after a series of faultless stints. Unfortunately, though, as a consequence of the incident at the start of the race, the team then had to make an unscheduled pit stop and lost valuable time in the process. Steffen Görig, Christian Hook and Valentin Pierburg (all GER) eventually finished the race in sixth place overall and fifth in the GT3 classification. Directly behind them in sixth place in the class standings was the number 58 Mercedes-AMG GT3 of Team MP #racing driven by the family trio of Corinna, David and Thomas Gostner (all ITA).
