Beitske Visser, #sophiaflorsch and #tatianacalderon still showed impressive pace and ran with the front-runners in the #europeanlemansseries LMP2 category at the #autodromodimonza. On a challenging and tricky track, the Richard Mille #racing Team all-female driver line-up showed its resilience to secure its third top ten finish in four races so far this season.

In the #europeanlemansseries, #beitskevisser, #sophiaflorsch and #tatianacalderon arrived in Italy willing to build on their outstanding run at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. On Thursday, the Richard Mille #racing Team trio began its preparations at the «Temple of Speed». All three quickly found their marks again on a track they had previously raced on before #sophiaflorsch finished fifth with the n°50 OrecaGibson in the lone Friday session.

After a final test run on Saturday morning, #tatianacalderon got behind the wheel for qualifying. In what was an extremely intense and contested ten-minute session, the Colombian ran amongst the leaders before missing out on the top ten by less than a tenth of a second. Monza is well-known for producing surprises and an overnight shower posed another challenge for the trio with a start on a greasy and drying track.

In these tricky conditions, the team went with #sophiaflorsch and the intermediate tyres for the start of the 4 Hours of Monza. The German driver made a perfect start, moving up five positions to slot into sixth place at the first chicane. The track, however, was drying quickly, which pushed her to be one of the first to head to the pits for slick tyres ahead of a fantastic battle between the n°31 Panis #racing and the n°37 Cool #racing entries.

Sophia Flörsch was even up to fourth place before she completed her double stint and handed over to #beitskevisser. The Dutchwomen took over where her team-mate left off to cement the crew’s position, but an ill-timed full course yellow gave their direct competitors a “free” pit-stop.

After her double stint, #beitskevisser was replaced by #tatianacalderon for the final 90 minutes of the race.

Despite the bad luck her team-mate encountered, #tatianacalderon continued to push just until the chequered flag, getting the better of several rivals. The Richard Mille #racing Team crossed         the finish line mere seconds outside of the top ten but the trio eventually claimed the tenth position following the disqualification of the n°27 Dragonspeed car.

On the strength of the progress it has made and its never give up attitude, the Richard Mille #racing Team scored a precious point ahead of the final battle for the places of honour in the season finale in Portimão (October 30th - November 1st).

Sophia Flörsch: ‘We can be happy with the pace we had this weekend. We were just a bit unlucky in qualifying, with a starting position that didn’t really reflect our potential, and it was the same in the race. While the slicks allowed to save one stint, we made the right choice with the intermediates for the start. It was fun to fight with others on track and the team did a great job again. We have Portimão left, a super track, quick and difficult. I am looking forward to it and I will give it all to be 100% ready for it!’

Beitske Visser: ‘I think we had a good weekend and we definitely made a step forward performancewise. We were not very lucky in the race with the full course yellows, but our pace has been really strong so hopefully next time we are a bit more lucky with that and to obtain a good result!’

Tatiana Calderón: ‘It’s not the final result we deserved, but the team did a great job and we had a really good pace throughout the weekend. We were a bit unfortunate with the full course yellows, but I am very happy with the way the Richard Mille #racing Team is working and I hope we can finish the season on a high in Portimão!’

Philippe Sinault, Team Principal: ‘This is clearly our best race to date and our drivers have been able to take the next step in not making any mistakes like at Le Mans. Right from the first laps in Monza, the car was well balanced and they showed how fast they were, running consistently in the top ten, and even in the top five in FP1. We also continued our learning process by entrusting the start to Sophia on a wet track. She made the most of the traffic jam at the first chicane to move up to sixth place, maintain the position and move further up the order with perfect management of the transition from intermediates to slicks tyres. Sadly, we were less fortunate with the full course yellows, especially the one that happened just after our refuelling and tyre change. Our rivals benefitted from it and we lost more than a minute and three to four positions. Beyond the frustration of the final result, the most important thing remains the positive momentum between the team and the drivers. They were in the thick of the action in terms of pace, traffic management and fuel consumption. This is extremely promising for the future and we are determined to continue our progress by bringing together all the tools this driver line-up need to further develop.’
