19 October 2019 – Birgu, #MaltaFrance's Cassandre Beaugrand and USA's Katie Zaferes will resume their rivalry in what looks set to be a highly-charged Final tomorrow at Super League #Malta after both comfortably won their Semi-Finals earlier this afternoon.

Beaugrand cruised to Group A victory in the first Semi-Final of the afternoon to ensure a Short Chute advantage tomorrow before Zaferes overtook Netherland's Rachel Klamer on the final hill to take the finish-line tape in Group B, also receiving the Short Chute.

Two qualifiers from the Junior Girls race this morning – Italy's Beatrice Mallozi and Bianca Seregni – put on sensational performances, stepping up to the plate when needed most; both have made it to tomorrow's Final as two of the next fastest five across both Groups. Mallozi pushed hard throughout the course in her second race of the day, finishing sixth in her Group and although Seregni did not finish, she had one of the fastest times before elimination, qualifying for Day 2.

In the Men's race, Vincent Luis’ dominance continued, once again claiming victory in Group A; but it wasn't a guaranteed win from the start. Junior qualifier Nicolo Strada led out of the first swim, much to everyone's amazement, as it was the second event of his day. But with tired legs, Strada would soon be eliminated.

New Zealand's Hayden Wilde produced a remarkable display after narrowly avoiding a bike pile-up with Simon Henseleit and Oliver Turner. Wilde, with bad road rash down his right side and a cut-up face after a crash in training 24 hours earlier, recovered remarkably and managed to secure a second-place finish with Canada's Tyler Mislawchuk coming in third.

Arguably the biggest performance of the Semi-Final Group came from Portugal's Vasco Vilaca who was on Luis' heels for much of the first round. Vilaca finished fourth while Norway's Gustav Iden grabbed the final automatic qualification spot of the Group in fifth.

In Group B, Kristian Blummenfelt laid down the gauntlet to Vincent Luis after an outstanding performance.  The Norwegian powerhouse produced some of the best biking of the day and his Semi-Final win gave him the Short Chute for Sunday's Final, along with Luis.

Belgium's Marten Van Riel ran himself into second place, with France's Pierre Le Corre taking third. South African duo Richard Murray and Henri Schoeman produced strong displays after injury and illness respectively to take the other two automatic qualification positions for the Final tomorrow.
