CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – In a championship battle that persisted down to the final race of the season, Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Marvin Musquin concluded the 2018 AMA Pro Motocross Championship with second overall in the 450MX standings. On Saturday, Musquin battled through muddy and treacherous conditions at the Ironman National to finish on the overall podium with third at the season finale in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

With extreme rainfall pouring down all morning, Saturday’s qualifying was condensed to only one session and Musquin made the most of it by clocking the third fastest lap. In #moto 1, Musquin struggled to get a clean line off the sloppy start and he worked his way into seventh on the opening lap. He soldiered through the extremely track conditions to finish fourth in the #moto, which kept the 450MX Championship undecided heading into the final #moto

In #moto 2, Musquin got off to a much better start as he rounded the opening lap in fourth. He engaged in an intense battle for third with Cooper Webb and after dicing back-and-forth for most of the race, Musquin was able to overtake the position with five laps to go. From there, he held strong through the finish to secure third-place in the #moto and third overall for the day.

Musquin: “Today at Ironman, it was very tough conditions. We had a LOT of rain in the morning and I didn’t get a good start in the first #moto, so it was really tough for me to get into the speed of the top guys. The second half of the #moto was a lot better, I found my groove and better lines but unfortunately it just wasn’t enough and I got fourth. The second #moto, I got a better start and I battled back to third place, so another podium, yeah, but definitely not what I wanted today. I expected a little bit more to be honest. I got second in the championship, so it’s a good year overall – I was more consistent and got more podiums but the competition was definitely really high this year.”
