The year in nike innovation

Nike designs in 2016 that underscore the company’s commitment to furthering human potential.
NIKE HYPERADAPT 1.0
The #nike #hyperadapt10 is the payoff of significant research into digital, electrical and mechanical engineering. Powered by an underfoot-lacing mechanism, the shoe proposes a groundbreaking solution to individual idiosyncrasies in lacing and fit preferences. That means the undue pressure caused by tight tying and slippage resulting from loose laces is a relic of the past. Precise, consistent and personalized lockdown can now be manually adjusted on the go.
NIKE LUNAREPIC FLYKNIT
Debuted in March, the #nike #lunarepicflyknit features a revolutionary mid-height collar design and incorporates a laser-siped, pressure mapped outsole for a smooth ride and supremely soft underfoot feel. The result is a shoe built to tackle any run — from distance workouts to recovery jogs.
NIKE AEROSWIFT TECHNOLOGY
On Rio’s courts, fields and track, #nike federations debuted the latest in sustainable performance solutions: #nike Vapor uniforms with #nike #aeroswifttechnology. The uniforms are designed to reduce distractions by maximizing support for thermoregulation, sweat management, breathability and movement, and they're made using recycled polyester. In football kits, for example, this led to a reduction of overall weight by 10% and an increase in stretch of 50%. Beyond the summer’s competitions, #aeroswifttechnology has also been incorporated into kits worn by the world’s leading clubs.
NIKE ANTI-CLOG TRACTION
The beautiful game is not always played in beautiful conditions. Mud is a common opponent for all footballers; it clogs cleats and can cause players to lose footing altogether. #nike Anti-Clog Traction prevents this issue. How does it work? In a nutshell: The sole plates on Nike’s Anti-Clog football boots include an adaptive polymer that becomes compliant when exposed to water. A lubricious layer is thus created, helping to keep mud from clogging the plate.
APPLE WATCH NIKE+
Apple Watch Nike+ is the ultimate tool for anyone who runs, pairing exclusive #nike #sport Bands with the #applewatch Series 2. Deep integration with the new Nike+ Run Club app offers coaching plans that adapt to your unique schedule and progress, as well as guidance from the world’s best coaches and athletes.
NIKE ZOOM SUPERFLY FLYKNIT
In 200- and 400-meter sprints, an athlete’s control through the track’s curve can add or subtract crucial milliseconds. To address the challenge ahead of Rio, Allyson Felix entered into an unprecedented collaboration with #nike, comprised of design and engineering research, with the aim of creating a new spike built specifically for her races’ requirements. The result, the #nike Zoom Superfly Flyknit, unites extensive scientific analysis from Nike’s Sports Research Lab (NSRL) with computational design by the company’s designers and pixel-level stitch placement by its Flyknit engineers.
NIKE ZOOM KD9
In response to Kevin Durant’s trademark versatility and impressive court coverage (approximately four miles a game and 15 marathons a season), the #nike Air Zoom KD9 offers support, comfort and responsiveness via the most advanced construction of #nike Flyknit and Zoom Air technologies to date.
CUSTOM #nike EYEWEAR FOR LEX GILLETTE
For last summer's Paralympic games, long jumper Elexis (Lex) Gillette requested a better alternative to the requirement of opaque glasses (or an eye mask) for competing in Class T11. Fabric masks are standard wear despite their drawbacks: They hit eyelashes, and their fit is inconsistent, making them an added distraction.
In order to meet Gillette's desire for the new eyewear to also "look cool," Nike’s cross-functional NXT team created a more eye glasses-style structure that would minimize surface-to-skin contact. This way, it would seem as though Gillette's face was bare (the way it is when he trains), and the design would also protect his eyes in the event that sand would fly up from the pit.
The team rapid prototyped a few rough samples, which they taped to elastic and brought with them on a visit to Gillette’s training facility in Chula Vista, California. There, they determined a design direction and scanned Gillette’s head for further size refinement. Instead of painting the piece, they pulled footwear and apparel skins and played with sublimating the fabrics onto the frame.

AIR JORDAN XXXI
The Air Jordan XXXI represents a balance of Jordan Brand’s tradition of game-changing performance and transcendent style. The shoe’s first-of-its-kind Flyweave and leather upper reintroduce the original Air Jordan “Wings” logo and a subtle Swoosh — not seen on a Jordan shoe since the Air Jordan I and the first time it has appeared alongside a Jumpman logo. The shoe features low profile cushioning, lightweight support and rich material details that exude an off-court sensibility.
