Porsche European Open 2016: The Contestants

Comunicato Stampa disponibile solo in lingua originale.

Following its premier last year, the #porscheeuropeanopen has again enticed many pros to come to Bad Griesbach. Among others, Martin Kaymer from Mettman, double Major-Tournament winner and former number 1 in the world rankings, has confirmed his participation. He is competing in Bad Griesbach for the first time and it will be his only performance in Germany in 2016: “I am excited about it working out this year and to be playing in front of a home audience in the #porscheeuropeanopen.”

He will be up against Marcel Siem, another German attempting to claim the traditional cup. The Ratinger is currently recovering from a serious shoulder injury which forced him to take a break. However, he plans on being fit in time for his premier at the #porscheeuropeanopen. Besides Kaymer and Siem, Maximilian Kiefer (Dusseldorf), Florian Fritsch (Heidelberg) and Bernd Ritthammer (Nurnberg) will be wearing the German colours.

Also competing: Ryder-Cup-heroes and Porsche-fans Peter Hanson (Sweden), Robert Karlsson (Sweden) and Paul Lawrie (Schotland) as well as Austrian Bernd Wiesberger. Furthermore, the current number 5 in the Race to Dubai and winner of this year’s Flagship #event of the European Tour in Wentworth, Chris Wood, English young star Matthew Fitzpatrick and his fellow countryman Andy Sulllivan, Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Miguel Ángel Jiménez and Englishman Andrew Johnston will be participating.

Moreover, the audience can look forward to a strong team from Asia. The 2009 PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang (Korea) will be competing alongside three current European-Tour-Winners: Chinese Wu Ashun and Li Haotong as well as Yang’s fellow countryman Jeunghun Wang.

This year's hole in one prize: a Porsche Panamera 4S

A definite highlight for the pros will be the title partner’s hole in one prize: the first player to achieve an ace at the 17th hole during the four tournament days will receive the brand-new and just recently presented #porsche Panamera 4S.

“The #porscheeuropeanopen is an excellent expansion of our previous golfing activities in amateur sport. We want to establish the tournament as a fixed date in the tour schedule,” says Detlev von Platen, Member of the Executive Board, Sales and Marketing. “The premier of this European-Tour-Tournament last year significantly exceeded our expectations. In September in Bad Griesbach, #golf lovers can look forward to both an attractive field of players with the German star Martin Kaymer as well as a programme that will provide them with an even better understanding of the passion, emotionality and precision of our brand.”

The European Open Championships have a long history and belong to the top tournaments on the European professional tour. The list of winners is full of illustrious names such as Greg Norman, Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomerie or Bernhard Langer. The tournament was first carried out in 1978 and most recently was held near London up until 2009. The great tradition was revived in 2015 with the assistance of #porsche as the second top tournament on German soil.
