2015 Frankfurt Motor Show: Showcasting CITROËN Strengths in creativity, comfort and technology

CITROËN has been boldly setting trends in automotive creativity for some 95 years now, with cars that are closely attuned to their epoch. Comfortable cars. Cars with inimitable style. Cars that are a genuine pleasure to have around. And as well as the cars themselves, CITROËN also extends its highly individual outlook to services and the dealer network, offering customers an enjoyable, trouble-free experience from start to finish. It's a unique state of mind, and it's never been stronger.

True to its winning image in WTCC, CITROËN is well and truly in the race as ever, proudly pursuing its ambitions at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

BOLD, CREATIVE CONCEPT CARS

CITROËN's two concept cars at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show give a good idea of how it sees the car of the future:

  • World première: #cactusm concept car. This is a fresh, vibrant take on the #c4 Cactus, and a fitting tribute to this car's incomparable design and personality. This chirpy, outdoor car clearly has leisure activities uppermost in mind, much like the mythical Méhari of years gone by. Everything about it extols the CITROËN values.

  • European première: AIRCROSS concept car. This is a great interpretation of how CITROËN sees the SUV. On this, its maiden European outing, it's showing off an outline that expresses the global potential of CITROËN's upmarket positioning.

With these two cars, CITROËN yet again asserts its unstoppable capacity for creativity.

AN UP-TO-THE-MINUTE PRODUCT RANGE, WITH EVER MORE APPEAL

    Modern product range

CITROËN has released several new models over the last few months, all expressing its unique set of values. First came the #c4 Cactus, a

comfortable— on the urban scene. #c4 Cactus has won more than 35 awards, including the prestigious World Design Car of the Year prize, awarded on 2 April in New York. For Frankfurt it's sporting new equipment (such as the asymmetrical fold-down rear seats), a new engine (BlueHDi 100 S&S ETG6) and a new body colour (Jelly Red) that makes it even more irresistible. Then there's the CITROËN C1, also with new equipment (Active City Brake, AFIL) and new colour schemes such as Blue Lagoon, for even more personality.

New takes on existing best sellers

Two best sellers are at the Frankfurt show in revamped versions that keep the closest track of customer expectations: the new #c4 and the new #berlingo Multispace, key players in their respective market segments.

Comfort, the common denominator

Comfort is the key common factor across the whole of the CITROËN range. CITROËN holds unrivalled know-how in designing cars that offer consistent all-round comfort. And the CITROËN conception of comfort factors in today's lifestyle preferences to keep pace with shifting customer expectations.

MEANINGFUL TECHNOLOGIES

Ever more efficient engines

CITROËN harnesses cutting-edge powertrain technologies to offer customers the very best. We see this in the latest- generation powerplants such as the BlueHDi 150 S&S diesel unit with manual transmission and the BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6 automatic, both of which power today's CITROËN C5. Then there's the PureTech range of petrol units, including the three-cylinder turbocharged PureTech engine, voted Engine of the Year, available on C3, #c3 Picasso, #c4 Cactus, C4, #c4 Picasso and Grand #c4 Picasso.

Connected services

CITROËN also offers a full range of online services, starting with CITROËN CONNECT, for peace of mind and everyday convenience, and the new CITROËN CONNECT PACK.

A 360° CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE

CITROËN's endeavours to offer comprehensive customer well-being through a seamless zero-stress experience rooted in clarity and confidence, the aim being to achieve the highest customer recommendation rating of any automaker. The customer experience goes beyond the product itself, extending to services that are designed to simplify how people interact with their cars. For example, CITROËN Service Racing offers in-the-hour servicing with no cost penalty. Then there's the CITROËN & VOUS programme, which expresses a series of dealership commitments to the customer. Perhaps the most emblematic is the CITROËN ADVISOR interactive online opinions site, the first of its kind for an automaker.

The press conference will be organised on Tuesday 15 September at 2.20 pm. The following people will be available for interviews:

  • -  Linda Jackson, CEO of CITROËN

  • -  Xavier Peugeot, Product Director, CITROËN

  • -  Alexandre Malval, Styling Director, CITROËN

  • -  WTCC Pilots (please contact Marie-Pierre ROSSI)

1. BOLD AND CREATIVE CONCEPT CARS
WORLD PREMIÈRE: #cactusm CONCEPT, “FREE YOUR MIND”!

At the Frankfurt International Motor Show, CITROËN is premiering a concept car inspired by the Méhari: the CITROËN CACTUS M. An 'outdoor' take on the #c4 Cactus, this new concept car has a bright, upbeat personality. Looking beyond design, CITROËN is expressing a lifestyle approach with the CACTUS M, placing leisure at the heart of the automotive experience. At ease on all types of terrain and in all situations, the #cactusm concept inspires a sense of well-being, freedom and escape.

AN OPEN-AIR CROSSOVER.

Further developing the approach suggested by the CITROËN #c4 Cactus, the #cactusm has 'go-anywhere' looks, clearly stating its family ties with the CITROËN Aircross concept presented in Shanghai last April. The wings are sculpted around the wheels for a more compact, muscular look. The straighter windscreen, raised body and wheel diameter underline its personality as a leisure vehicle. On the body sides, the large plastic doors add a lightweight, protective touch, giving the vehicle its signature. This design brings to mind the renowned Méhari, a vehicle with the same 'go-anywhere' mindset. The cabin is completely open. Passengers access the seats in row 2 by climbing over the body side, using an insert provided at the rear for support. Nothing separates the passengers from their surrounding environment.

INGENIOUS AND WITH A STRONG LEISURE FOCUS.

Through its design, the CITROËN #cactusm turns leisure into a lifestyle, placing it at the heart of the automotive experience. The interior illustrates this approach, with technical materials used in open-air activities. For full and uncompromising use, the cabin can be hosed out thanks to the drainage outlets integrated in the foot wells. Inspired by the world of surfing, the seats are designed to resemble wetsuits, and are upholstered in a brightly coloured neoprene fabric for comfort and waterproofing. The CITROËN #cactusm is also a modular vehicle, with a roof extension that enables passengers to store all their equipment (wakeboard, windsurf board, etc.). Everything is designed for comfort and peace of mind.

AT EASE ON ALL TERRAINS

The CITROËN #cactusm was also designed to head off the beaten path, to explore and open up new horizons. Whatever the activity, the weather or the road conditions, everything is designed to ensure a relaxing ride for the occupants. On all types of terrain, the Grip Control function optimises traction for a relaxed ride anywhere. The #cactusm also inspires a sense of extreme freedom with a modular cabin that turns into a couchette and a top that can be made into a tent. This top, which features an innovative system of inflation, also provides protection in the #event of rain. The CITROËN #cactusm also features onboard technologies for everyday use with all the useful equipment found on the #c4 Cactus (touch drive interface, Easy Push system, etc.).

The #cactusm concept is a modern take on the values that led to the development of the Méhari. Values relating to comfort, well-being and leisure, which have always been part of CITROËN. Displayed alongside the #c4 Cactus and the Aircross concept, the #cactusm concept illustrates the vitality of the brand and the coherence of its approach.

EUROPEAN PREMIÈRE: THE AIRCROSS CONCEPT CAR, A CITROËN INVITATION TO TRAVEL

CITROËN AIRCROSS is making its European début appearance at the Frankfurt Motor Show. This bold, creative concept car confirms Citroën's capacity to develop a strong upmarket positioning:

- International: AIRCROSS follows through from #c4 Cactus to exemplify CITROËN's international ambitions in a body outline that holds clear global potential.

- Different: CITROËN AIRCROSS breaks with convention while meeting all the key requirements of a modern SUV. The exterior design and interior styling are ultramodern in the true CITROËN spirit, following the stylistic lead set by #c4 Cactus to prove CITROËN's capacity to assert its identity in all vehicle segments.

CITROËN AIRCROSS ably demonstrates that #c4 Cactus is just a beginning rather than an end to itself:

-A unique attitude: CITROËN AIRCROSS is a protective, well-wishing SUV that melts the antagonism between power and positive energy. Its overt optimism shuns any sense of aggressiveness.

o Unique personality, pure and optimistic, with a horizontal outline emphasis and fluid, organic volumes punctuated with distinctive graphic features  such as the Alloy Bumps and Air Signs. The impression is intensified by the orange-red body colour, symbolizing energy and serenity, and innovative      materials evoking the vehicle's robustness.

o Design for functionality and aerodynamics.

- An invitation to travel, in a passenger compartment that gives an immediate sensation of energy-generating comfort. Everything on board the CITROËN AIRCROSS is designed for well-being of body and mind. The physical comfort afforded by the generously proportioned seats is enhanced by the warm, welcoming materials and the combination of pale shades with tonic colours. The sleek transversal styling emphasis evokes space, and the generous geometric shapes frame an uncluttered interior. In each section of the car, great looks go together with advanced functionality. The travel theme extends to the design of stowage spaces, with extensive use of straps for example, in a fresh, modern interior that invites passengers to enjoy an altogether different style of motoring.

- Technological intelligence for practicality, with each occupant enjoying a choice between shared and individual experiences. For example, there are two 12” HD screens, one of them mobile for sharing with the passenger. Each seat has its own loudspeakers and microphone, for interaction among the passengers. Another example of technological intelligence is the Hybrid Plug-In drivechain, a high-performance yet highly efficient power unit. Technologies on CITROËN AIRCROSS are meaningful in offering a brand-new, delightfully laid- backed motoring experience.

2. AN UP-TO-THE-MINUTE PRODUCT RANGE, WITH EVER MORE APPEAL

EVER MORE APPEAL

C4 CACTUS: NEW FEATURES FOR “WORLD DESIGN CAR OF THE YEAR”

C4 Cactus is a crossover of an entirely different kind, a unique personality —technological and comfortable— on the urban scene. #c4 Cactus has won more than 35 awards, including the prestigious World Design Car of the Year prize, awarded on 2 April in New York. #c4 Cactus sales top 95 000 so far, with 50% in the higher trim levels.

C4 Cactus enhancements premièred at the Frankfurt Motor Show:

- Design, with an elegant and upbeat new body colour: Jelly Red, a subtle mix of red with a hint of raspberry, available with a choice of black, dune or grey Airbumps®. Something for everybody! Further customization capabilities come with the new Mica Red textile upholstery, latest addition to the existing interior finish range, and a great choice to go with the Jelly Red body.

- Versatility, with an asymmetrical fold-down rear seat.

- Efficiency, with the new diesel power unit, BlueHDi 100 S&S ETG6.

CITROËN C1: EVEN MORE PERSONALITY

Just a year after the car first appeared on the market, CITROËN #c1 sales already top 80 000 units, including 18% in the Airscape version. Its strong personality continues to turn heads out there in the urban jungle, and will be doing so even more with its brand new ultra-fresh, energy-packed colour scheme.

CITROËN #c1 is appearing at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a brand new body colour, Blue Lagoon, intended as an open invitation to get away from it all. The new shade joins the seven others in the colour chart, and is also available for the two-tone mixes now available on option with both three-door and five-door versions. On the interior it goes with the Blue Lagoon Colour Pack décor on the multimedia panel and the gearshift base, the new Zebra Blue Lagoon textile, and a special floormat décor feature.

CITROËN #c1 excels for day-in, day-out convenience, with its compact dimensions (3.46 m long), manoeuvrability (4.80 m turning radius), best-in-class suspension comfort and irreproachable roadholding. For the ultimate in driver reassurance there's the optional Active City Brake, an automatic urban braking technology that prevents collisions at low speed. A short-range laser sensor at the top of the windscreen detects obstacles, such as the vehicle in front, or a stationary vehicle, at speeds up to 30 km/h. The system starts by warning the driver of an impending danger, then provides braking assistance and will even activate the brakes automatically if required. The aim is to prevent collision or at least minimize the consequences, by reducing the impact velocity. Automatic braking can bring the car to a standstill if the situation so requires.

Another useful driver aid on CITROËN #c1 is the Lane Departure Warning System, which helps guard against reduced vigilance and inattention at the wheel.

THE NEW CITROËN #berlingo MULTISPACE

The CITROËN #berlingo was the originator of the LUV (leisure utility vehicle) concept, and since its initial release in 1996 it has consistently offered a practical, modern response to customers' expectations, achieving overall sales of 2.9 million units. CITROËN #berlingo Multispace is a versatile, functional, large-volume vehicle that makes an ideal partner in all situations.

New CITROËN #berlingo pushes the virtues of versatility, volume, comfort and equipment even further:

- The modern, expressive design features a new front end, more assertive yet completely non-aggressive. There's a new bumper with repositioned LED daylight lamps and a new radiator grille. And there are two new distinctive body colours: Steel Grey and Moka Brown.

- Comfort is true to the CITROËN reputation in the matter. The Multispace version features the Modutop®, highly comfortable seats and suspension, independent rear seats and an opening rear window. The LCV version features the Extenso® cabin with three modular front seats. The interior environment offers new upholsteries and linings, with QUAD and LIBERIA textiles.

- Technological intelligence is harnessed for practicality, with features such as the new 7” touchpad, which combines media and satnav functions, and smartphone replication via the Mirror Screen. Driver aids include the Active City Brake automatic emergency braking system, plus reversing radar and front parking assistance. Technological intelligence also extends to the car's efficient latest-generation engines, for driveability and low fuel consumption, with BlueHDi diesel technology. The BlueHDi 100 S&S manual power unit consumes 4.1 litres per 100 km and emits just 109 g per km of CO2 .

THE NEW CITROËN #c4 RANGE

The second-generation CITROËN C4, benchmark for comfort in its segment, gets a facelift with a new light signature, more useful technology, and latest-generation engines. With its elegant design, excellent comfort and irreproachable driveability it reasserts its status at the top of the compact car segment.

The CITROËN #c4 upgrade:

- More modern design, with a new light signature that enhances the expressiveness of both the front end, with its daylight LED headlamps, and the rear end, with its 3D-effect lamps. And there are new body colours: Ink Blue, Steel Grey and Rubi Red, plus a new interior lining.

- Exceptional comfort, as usual, starting with a very smooth ride that exacts no compromise on driving pleasure. Soundproofing is best-in-class, the seats are superbly comfortable, the driver's seat has a massage function, and the panoramic sunroof has an electric blind. CITROËN #c4 is spacious, with its 2.61 m wheelbase, asymmetrical fold-down rear bench, and a boot volume of 408 litres, one of the largest in this vehicle segment.

- Technological intelligence for practicality, with the new Hands-Free Access and Start System and new 7” touchpad combining media and satnav functions, plus driver aids such as hill start assist, intelligent traction control and blind-spot watch. On-board connectivity comes through CITROËN Connect Box, which covers localized emergency calls and assistance, a virtual logbook and an eco-driving service. And the Euro6-compliant PureTech and BlueHDi three-cylinder engines bring technological intelligence for driveability and fuel economy. Stop&Start technology coupled with the use of low-rolling-resistance tyres brings very low fuel consumption: as low as 3.3 litres per 100 km (for 86 g/km of CO2) with the BlueHDi 100 manual and 4.7 litres* (for 107 g/km of CO2*) with the PureTech 130 S&S EAT6.

THP 165 S&S EAT6 power unit
This unit, designed to meet the new Euro6 regulations, carries in all the virtues of the Euro5 THP 155 and adds

several technical upgrades to achieve a significant improvement in fuel economy and performance:

- The maximum injection pressure is raised from 120 bars (on the THP 155) to 200 bars, which makes for a better fuel spray, thereby optimizing the combustion reaction and reducing pollutant emissions, especially during cold-start phases.

- Stop&Start technology, coupled with improved management of electrical and hydraulic energy, reduces in-town fuel consumption by around 10% compared to the previous-generation Euro5 unit.

- Internal engine friction has been considerably reduced.

- The turbocharger fins have been redesigned to give higher power and prompter response during acceleration at low revs.

The THP 165 S&S engine delivers maximum power of 120 kW (165 bhp CEE) at 6,000 rpm. Torque peaks at 240 Nm from 1400 rpm and stays steady up to 4000 rpm, affording remarkable driving response at lower and medium engine speeds.

Coupled through the six-speed EAT transmission on #c4 Picasso and Grand #c4 Picasso, this engine consumes just 5.6 litres per 100 km (combined cycle), for CO2 emissions of around 129 g/km.

EAT6: THE BENCHMARK IN SIX-SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS

This latest-generation transmission differs from its predecessor on three main counts:

- Faster gear shifts (40% faster), with the new engine-transmission synchronization strategy (Quick Shift technology) and new controller

- Smoother response, with a compact toroid converter and improved filtration, for shifts at lower revs, and a wider ratio range, for improved pull-away performance and lower revs at higher speeds

- Lower fuel consumption, with lower internal friction (optimized clutch discs, oil pump flowrate adjusted to engine load, and smaller oil pump, with redesigned hydraulic distributor)

With EAT6 transmission coupled to Stop&Start engine technology, the new CITROËN #c4 models with PureTech 130 S&S EAT6 power unit achieve mixed-cycle fuel consumption of 4.8 litres per 100 km* (for CO2 emissions of 110 g per km).

*depending on country
This transmission is also available on CITROËN #c4 Picasso, Grand #c4 Picasso, C5 and C5 Tourer.
