Expo Milano 2015 celebrates the National Day of Afghanistan

“Our Country is afflicted by poverty and our next objective is to achieve a new form of independence, this time from hunger, which is effectively one of the main themes of Expo Milano 2015”. With these words, the Deputy Minister for Trade and Industry, Mozammil Shinwari, officially opened the celebrations for the National Day of Afghanistan, in which the Under-Secretary of State for Defence, Gioacchino Alfano also participated.

“We are grateful to Expo Milano 2015 and to the Italian government for having given our country this unique opportunity to take part in this fantastic adventure – added Mozammil Shinwari, who is also the General Commissioner of the Pavilion of the Asian country- . Thanks in particular are due for having given us the opportunity to celebrate our National Day the day after that on which Afghanistan celebrates the anniversary of its independence, achieved on 19 August 1990. We are here at this exhibition to present to the world all our potential, and to introduce them to the Afghan tastes and flavours that can reach the European market and so bring you a little of our culture. Afghanistan is a country with many shades and colours, including many positive aspects, which unfortunately are often not highlighted”.

Under-Secretary Alfano instead stressed that “The higher the number of nations participating in Expo Milano 2015 the more important it becomes”. Alfano then reminded those present of “the importance of the theme chosen by the Afghanistan Pavilion, which focuses on nutrition and longevity, by proposing a series of recipes made with extremely high quality products containing no chemical components”.

The delegation then visited the Afghanistan Pavilion in the Spices Cluster to witness a show of dances in traditional dress and taste characteristic dishes of the local cuisine, accompanied by the traditional drink made with rose water and saffron.
