Pitti Bimbo 81: Closing figures

The 81th edition of Pitti Bimbo ended after three days of intense activity marked by an overall atmosphere of energy and trust. The 81st edition of Pitti Immagine Bimbo (Florence, 25-27 June 2015), the key international childrenswear fair, ended at the Fortezza da Basso launching a message of confidence and energy for Italian and international junior fashion. The final attendance figures basically confirmed the high levels achieved a year ago: overall there were more than 5,600 buyers in attendance over the three days of the fair, making a total of 10,000 visitors.

The figures for Italy remained stable, reflecting the positive signs already registered for domestic consumption which has become more dynamic in recent months. With regard to the international markets, there were positive performances for buyers from Spain (+15%, the fair’s top market), France (+12%), Belgium (+8%), and from Middle Eastern, Central Asian and Far Eastern countries, with increases for Hong Kong and a rise in the number of sales outlets from China. The United States and South Korea con firmed previous attendance levels, the dark period continued for the important Russian childrenswear market which recorded a drop of over 30%; whilst there was a return to growth for Ukraine (+38%). In total the fair was attended by almost 2,400 buyers.

The feedback collected at the Fortezza was characterized by positivity and general optimism” says Raffaello Napoleone, CEO of Pitti Immagine. “Children’s fashion is currently experiencing a period of renewed confidence.

The Italian market has managed to hold steady and this is undoubtedly a comforting sign after several seasons in which the decrease in domestic consumption has been evident. Once again there was the predicted fall in attendance from Russia, numerically an important market for kids’ fashion, as well as for the fair, although representatives from all the quality Russian retailers still came to Florence. At the same time there were lively performances from various foreign markets, both the established and emerging ones, raising hopes for exports for the next few seasons. Children’ s fashion is displaying high levels of quality and, at every edition, Pitti Bimbo tries to broaden its horizons with new exhibition projects – see the success of the new KidzFIZZ section - as well as through promotional initiatives and special events such as those realized at this edition thanks to the Centro di Firenze per la Moda Italiana and the ICE Agency, with the fundamental support of the Ministero dello Sviluppo Economico (Ministry for Economic Development), which made it possible to stage Italia Wow!!, the special runway show that pointed the spotlight on 17 of the most promising Made in Italy kidswear manufacturers; as well as the big party for the fair’ s 40th birthday, the Pitticolor Party at Villa Le Corti, which featured the huge and enthusiastic participation of exhibitors, buyers and press”.

Leading the list of the fair’s top 20 key markets is Spain (205), followed by Russia (170 buyers), Germany (139), France (123), Turkey (122), United Kingdom (110), Belgium (109), China (103), Holland (75), Greece (68), Ukraine (61), United States (47) United Arab Emirates (45), Japan (44), Brazil (44), South Korea (39), Switzerland (39), Lebanon (36), Poland (33), and Austria (31).
