Pata Honda, European Junior Cup set to stun in Italian sun

Pata Honda - European Junior Cup set to stun in Italian sun Round three of the 2015 Pata European Junior Cup, powered by Honda, is ready to go at the Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola this weekend. With 29 riders, including two local ‘wilcards’, racing identical Honda CBR650R machines around the historic 4.936km Italian circuit, it is sure to be another weekend of close and passionate competition. Supporting the World Superbike championship, the European Junior Cup has established its own legacy for serving up thrilling racing and the opening round of this season’s series have maintained that reputation. Spaniard Javier Orellana leads the way in the points standings, having won the opening two races. But his margins of victory have been 0.03s and 0.2s respectively over Italian Paolo Grassia at Aragon and Estonia’s Hannes Soomer at Assen. With two third place finishes, Emanuele Pusceddu’s consistency leaves him in second position overall, 18 points behind Orellana, with Soomer and Grassia close behind in third and fourth places.

Gerry Bryce - EJC series director

So here we are at round three already, in this amazing atmosphere that Imola creates when World Superbikes are in town. The last race in Assen was another thriller, right to the end, and I think we’re now seeing that we have a couple of really strong riders who are likely to battle right to the end of the championship. Imola always throws up a few surprises, though, with a lot of opportunities at the chicanes here. And all the Italian riders will certainly be pushing for good results at their home round. Naturally, we’re all looking forward to another great race!
