ITALIA DOCET | Laboratorium
. Collateral Event of the 56th International Art Exhibition - la Biennale di Venezia

The purpose of i-AM Foundation is the stimulation of the vision of Renaissance inside the contemporary political, social and media context, and research of new methods of reading through the direct experience of International artists. The core element of ITALIA DOCET | Laboratorium programme is the free movement of ideas of the Participants in relation to a humanistic common base, which becomes osmotic in relation to the subjective viewpoints and interchanges the dialogue with the spectators.
The direction of the project, led by Leonardo Rotatori, has developed a method capable of presenting the transmission of experiences from one system to another in a cosmopolitan environment. The substance the project wants to show, through this choral work, is the hidden contents that the humanist message conceals as its ontological basis.
The selected artwork and source of inspiration is Raffaello Sanzio’s cartoon of the “School of Athens”. Interpreted as a base – motherboard- it lends itself to a variety of interpretations, capable of creating multiple new narratives -spin-off - by allowing contemporary artists to add to and provide a modern-day interpretation of distinctive elements: the same elements, different artists, other audiences.
Italia Docet | Laboratorium has an immersive style of presentation, designed to emphasise the visual and audio elements of the work by placing the audience at the centre of a continuous choral performance. The voices of the main characters speak individually or blend into a choral magma, depending on the viewer’s position within a space.
The method programme: Open Structures
Created through the interaction of many different individuals in a Open Structures model – work in progress-, the work has a social and global identity, where the individual poetic is made available to the programme, in a sort of modern-day agora through a collective manner.
LABORATORIUM is a choral work, its construction follows a method that we called "Open Structures".
It is a structure capable of involving artists, audience and testimonials. The peculiar elements that compose the structure allow us to issue global Open Calls based on a matrix that is visible, lively and stimulating the dialogue between Renaissance Culture and Global Artist.
The theoretical assumptions underlying the programme is the will of considering Art as a memory of the social context, which becomes global thanks to technologies.
This purpose involves the ability of the makers (in a given but not short time) to create an infrastructure capable of welcoming artists, structuring and planning ad hoc actions.
The team manages the structure of the work giving it a logical form, so that it can involve the contaminations and ensure the goals.
The relationship of the “makers” turns into a “work in process” action, where all the parameters concerning the work are experienced as fragmented into an integrated and updated "whole part”.
Through technology, the layers create a context of short stories in one great chorus.
Each element is part of one whole to which it refers to as a fraction; we can say that more than being a fraction or fragment, the “host” work is a fractal.
The success in this transformation means to be able to investigate the “Fragment / Fractal" work by imagining that each small fragment or layer may contain elements of images, sounds, methods and ways of participation, all characteristics of the Corpus Opera.
We can say that the ability to express "sensitivity to participation" is directly proportional to the amount of open decks (possible link), because most items are available (hub) the easier it is to add a medium capable of creating its own "enlarged or increased sensitivity”, which leads to the imagination and the production of mediating meaning.
Exhibitors and Participants
An initial group of Participants, Italian and foreign artists, will present their own personal form of expression, demonstrating versatility, openness, the capacity for dialogue and a dialectical approach, which is then able to generate a great movement of ideas gathered from different environments – ideas that today, as in the past, are able to meet and be exchanged, in this way encouraging comparisons and dialogues relevant to civil society.
The plural sources are welcomed and organized by the artist Federico Guida and this study has generated cultural spaces to share in order to accommodate the “narrated” experiences with respect for the view of generosity and ecumenism.

e-Laboratorium
Since countries are more and more interconnected through trade, migration, and information and communication technologies, it is not surprising that for the programme ITALIA DOCET | Laboratorium we chose to create a platform www.laboratorium-venice2015.org translated in 30 languages, allowing the circulation of ideas brought by Participant Artists, and in the meanwhile the construction of a protocol of continuous Open Calls, in order to participate in the "discussion" and designing an Open Structure method from the cultural event to new interlocutors.
Stimulated by the artists themselves, showing a willingness to share a background culturally capable of bringing the values of humanism and the elements necessary for the construction of new forms of social economies, other artists will be involved in the quality of "filters and intellectual mentors" for the circulation of knowledge, experience and thought for development.
