New upcoming architecture and design in Milan - KADK at Milano Design Week

Architecture and design students present significant study projects together with a hand-picked group of designers from KADK at Salone del Mobile in Milan 2015. The exhibition “NØW!” presents the work of 36 new graduates and 45 students in the fair’s section for the new and upcoming. 14 to 19 April 2015.

The industry and the public will meet an international team of 45 architecture and design students and 36 new design graduates, representing KADK at this year’s Salone del Mobile, Milan. In an exhibition, extending from outdoors to indoors, they will show their vision of what Danish design, lighting, furniture and architecture is all about in 2015.

Outdoors: furniture, architectural lighting and textile façade

Outdoors visitors can explore study projects, designed specifically for the trade fair by the 45 students from the three master programmes at the Institute of Architecture and Design. Furniture students have created individual seats in rattan, students of architectural lighting design are presenting large-scale lighting fixtures and the students from the Spatial Design, Perception and Detail programme have been responsible for the graphics and design of the exhibition, including a huge textile façade, measuring 3 x 3 x 10 metres, in collaboration with Danish architect Dorte Mandrup.

Indoors: fashion, computer games, children’s prostheses and co-design

Inside, the visitors can enjoy the 36 projects selected from the work of recent graduate designers. Many of the projects are already in production, have won prizes orshow the cutting edge of the School of Design’s graduate work. The exhibition includes award-winning Danish game design, prosthetics for children and a wheelchair that can be mounted on skis, designed for the Danish Sitski Olympic athlete, Ulrik Nyvold, flexible LED lighting, Nordic production design, new banknotes and learning campaigns aimed at drone attacks. There will be fashion, already available in international shops, industrial design dealing with water wastage, and co-design to create citizen involvement in socially deprived environments.

Design and architecture aiming to change the world
Rector, Lene Dammand Lund: ”We are witnessing huge international interest, not least in Milan. And what better way to show the range of what KADK represents - and what artistic education in Denmark is capable of - than by involving our recent graduates and students? They are all delivering high-quality work in KADK’s three areas of knowledge: practice, art and science. This equips them to work on much more than instant solutions - namely visionary and complex solutions, involving the users, environments, resources and the future. Though the School of Design and School of Architecture can boast of a unique, 140-260-year-long history, Milan will be all about what is going on here and now in the various educational programmes, among our recent graduates, in our business collaborations and on the drawing boards at our institutes.”

See where Danish design and architecture is heading in the hands of the new generation, when experiment, innovation and concept compete with commercial, artistic and scientific know how.
