Vinitaly 2015: a journey through Emilia Romagna, the land of taste

The food and wine culture of Emilia Romagna will play once again the starring role at Vinitaly 2015 in Verona, (March 22-25): Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, in Hall 1, will offer a full program of events, tastings, meetings and workshops with aims to promote and enhance the excellences of this territory, starting of course with wine. On an area of about 4,000 square meters entirely reserved to our Region, 200 representatives of the wines from Emilia Romagna - companies and consortia – will participate to the event by presenting more than 400 wines. A JOURNEY ALONG THE VIA EMILIA For this edition of Vinitaly the key element chosen by Enoteca Regionale is one of the most famous and ancient Italian "symbols": the Via Emilia, the longest and most important road of Italy, built by Consul Lepidus in 187 BC. Pierluigi Sciolette, President of Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna says: "From Rimini to Piacenza, the Via Emilia, with its route, gives continuity and unity to our region, embracing the peculiarities of the different territories, the culture, the gastronomy, the landscapes, the traditions and, above all, the unique offer of local wines. It is important to remember that each area is characterized in a very precise way by one or more vine varieties. " Our journey along the Via Emilia strarts from the Romagna, where the king and queen of these territories are unquestionably the Sangiovese and the Albana and - from the surroundings of Ravenna onwards – the Pignoletto, which continues through Bologna to Modena; in the Eastern area of Ferrara, you can meet the “wine of the sands”, the Fortana. Going up along the Via Emilia, in the area of Modena, Reggio Emilia and Parma, we encounter the best known and sold worldwide vine, the Lambrusco, in its different varieties. Parma is also known for giving birth to the Malvasia. Our journey ends in Piacenza, where we find again the Malvasia wine accompanied by another symbol of the enology of the territory, the Gutturnio obtained from a mix of Croatina and Barbera. Should not be forgotten, however, the many other natives, perhaps less known but certainly to be discovered, that help to make even more varied and interesting our imaginary "journey in good taste" along the Via Emilia.

WINE TASTING STALLS AND A NEW APP

"One of our goals for Vinitaly - explains the Director of Enoteca Regionale Emilia Romagna, Ambrogio Manzi - is to display this trip: we will be present with 7 circular tasting stalls with more than 400 types of wines organized by areas where every visitor can take his own personal "journey in good taste" by deciding which point to begin to taste. The presence of 15 sommeliers and the availability of more than 15,000 glasses will ensure an impeccable service. " To help the many visitors expected this year at Hall 1 (in 2014 the presences were about 85,000) Enoteca Regionale has released a new App for iPhone with a free download from the AppStore, which will allow the user to experience digitally the wine-tasting before doing it physically at Vinitaly. Tasting tables, wineries and wines related are the three fulcrums of the navigation path of this App, which wants to represent the experience of a digital taste itinerary along the Via Emilia.

WINE AND FOOD IN AN EVERLASTING UNION IN EMILIA ROMAGNA

The wines of Emilia Romagna, however, could not walk alone along the Via Emilia, forgetting what our region is: the “food valley” of Europe, the first European Region by number of DOP and IGP (41). Not surprisingly, To help the many visitors expected this year at Hall 1 (in 2014 the presences were about 85,000) Enoteca Regionale has released a new App for iPhone with a free download from the AppStore, which will allow the user to experience digitally the wine-tasting before doing it physically at Vinitaly.

MEETINGS WITH INTERNATIONAL BUYERS

To encourage contacts with foreign buyers, this year in Hall 1, Emilia-Romagna Region and Unioncamere will organize a business to business workshop, which will bring together 60 companies from Emilia Romagna with 40 operators from European and extra-european countries, from China to Canada, from Brazil to South Korea, the US and Japan. This meeting is part of Deliziando, the project of overseas promotion of quality foods and wines started several years ago by Agriculture Union with regional Chambers of Commerce.

MEDITERRANEAN WINES

At Vinitaly 2015 there will be also room for the European project "South Europe Mediterranean Wines", which sees the collaboration of Enoteca Regionale with the Consortium of Greek wine producers and the House of Vines and Wine in the region of Plovdiv (Trakia, Bulgaria). Inside the Hall 1 will be possible to participate to wine tastings, meetings and events organized to raise awareness and to help a conscious approach to the wines of these three regions (www.southeurope-mediterraneanwines.eu). In the restaurant will be proposed also some traditional Greek and Bulgarian dishes.
