"THE ENCHANTED GARDEN" by AI WEIWEI at Palazzo Te, Mantova

The conceptual provocative and shocking creations of the Chinese Master will "invade" the rooms of the historic building and will guide us through "enchantment".

Ai Weiwei has chosen Italy and the beautiful Palazzo Te in Mantova to amaze once more the international audience by his visionary and surprising art, his anger and his civil commitment.
The Chinese artist is going to exhibit his works from March 7th to June 6th 2015 in the exhibition “The enchanted garden”, not a show but an unique event, a travel trough 46 unpublished works, made by him for this exhibition housed in the wonderful rooms of Palazzo Te, glamorous residence of Gonzagas. It is an exhibition where freedom of through and human right, genius and excesses, tradition and modernity compare themselves with Italian Renaissance in one of its greatest symbol, Palazzo Te and defy the comparison with the most committed contemporary art forms.
The exhibition "The Enchanted Garden", conceived by Origins, (EBLand Srl, President Paolo Mozzo), organized in collaboration with the municipality of Mantova, is curated by Sandro Orlandi Stagl and Mian Bu, with the support of Being 3 Gallery in Beijing. Book  exhibition Maretti Editore.
The works of Meng Huang and Li Zhanyang, two artists who have collaborated with Ai Weiwei in several projects for years, are also exhibited. For the occasion Ai Weiwei has created an installation in which he starred with the sculpture of himself, as well as five other sculptures that will place in the various rooms of Palazzo Te.
Ai Weiwei was born in Beijing 57 years ago, he is considered one of the most important contemporary artists, he is an architect, sculptor, designer and photographer. He is also a well known blogger and, above all, a human rights activist, extremely critical against the Chinese government. As a political activist, he has been highly and openly critical of the Chinese Government's stance on democracy and human rights. He has investigated government corruption and cover-ups, so he was arrested and he has not the right to leave his country.
Conceptual works revealing the talent of a great communicator that induce the viewer to think over the reality to imagine and create the change that Ai Weiwei has always supported and that we can find in his works.
"The Enchanted Garden", an ideal place for growing the soul and where aesthetics is directly related to ethics and research of spiritual thought, a precious piece to approach to the universe of the artist. He respect the Chinese tradition combined with the ability to throw himself into modernity. Ai Weiwei doesn’t want to abdicate a social and political awareness. Even so, the Chinese audience dubbed him, playing on homophony character, Ai Weilai, "Loving the future."
"The Enchanted Garden" becomes the real challenge of the exhibition because it is the place where the enchantment will disappear at the end: the artists, after having exposed us to a great illusion at the end lead us to disenchantment and we can better understand ethics and aesthetics in our contemporary society.
