Consumption growing in North America. Soon negotiations about "Parmesan"

Consumption of Parmigiano Reggiano keeps growing in the North American market.

In the first three months of the year there was a 2.7% increase of exports to the USA and a 12.7% increase of exports to Canada, a decidedly positive outlook for total exports, which in the same period rose by 4.8%.

These trends are to be considered within the context of the USA market being in 1st position among non-EU markets, with 16.4% of Parmigiano Reggiano exports, and 4th overall, immediately after the major European markets, with France in first position with 19.4%, followed by the United Kingdom with 17% and Germany with 16.8%.

It is within this framework that the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium participated in the Fancy Food Show in New York, the most important Food Event in North America, with over 20,000 visitors, 180,000 products and 2,400 exhibitors from over 80 countries around the world.

Here we received further confirmation of the importance of the USA market for Parmigiano Reggiano: a market not yet completely developed - the Consortium underlines – where there is a growing trend towards natural products and great potential for development, as shown not only by the trends of the first months of 2014, but also by the trend of recent years, which saw an increase both in 2010 (over 6%) and in 2013 (over 4%).
