Ferrari: Winter Olympic Games in Sochi - A bronze relay

The women’s short-track speed skating relay has brought the sixth medal for Italy at the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, and the third for Arianna Fontana after her silver in the 500m and bronze in the 1500m. Together with Martina Valcepina, Arianna Lucia Peretti and Elena Viviani, the 23-year-old from Sondrio made it to the podium at the end of an incredible race. The team was down in fourth place midway through but then – thanks to the disqualification of the Chinese team, who fouled their South Korean rivals on the last lap – their prize was the third step of the podium behind the Canadian team.

With this result Fontana brings her total Olympic medal haul to five and, together with the rest of the team, becomes the new pride of the team involved at Maranello in the collaborative project between CONI and Ferrari. For this edition of the Games they have also been working on optimising the interface between skate and the athlete’s boot and on manufacturing processes on the blades, including the set-up of a machine to trim them called ‘torchietto’ (little press), to substitute the traditional work by hand.
