Ferrari: Arianna’s red Thread - Sochi 2014

There’s a red thread linking Ferrari to the Olympic medals won by Italians at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. After a bronze for Armin Zoeggler in the luge, and silver for Christof Innerhofer in the downhill, yesterday there was a second place for Arianna Fontana in the 500 metres short track skating final. The amazing grit of the Italian skater brought her a third Olympic medal after a Bronze in relay in Turin 2006 and in the 500 metres in Vancouver in 2010. She fell, along with the Korean Seung Hi-Park, which was the fault of the Elise Christie, but Arianna got up and was just pipped in the photo-finish by the British girl, who was immediately disqualified by the jury. Gold went to China’s Li, but the determination shown by the 23 year old from Sondrio was great to see.

The Maranello marque has played a very important role in the sports disciplines on ice as part of a programme run by CONI-Ferrari. In particular, activity over the past four year Olympic period has focused on areas such as optimising the interface between the shoe and the skate, the procedures for producing the blade profile and the fine tuning of a blade sharpening machine, which completes a task previously done by hand.
