The attractive styling of the Solaris Tramino has been honoured with the TOP Design Award 2012. The Solaris low-floor tram beat off strong competition to win the Automotive and Public Transport category of this international award.
TOP Design Award is presented during area DESIGN exhibition and recognises modern product and industrial design. Particular emphasis is placed on designers and businesses working in close collaboration. The prize for the Solaris tram was presented to Dariusz Michalak, Solaris Director Research & Development, and the Tramino’s designer, Jens Timmich of Berlin-based design agency studioFT. Timmich has been working for Solaris since 1999 and has been instrumental in creating the widely-recognised styling of the Solaris product family.
The Solaris Tramino low-floor tram takes up the lines of the Urbino city bus and applies them to urban rail. The characteristic asymmetric windscreen emphasises that this tram belongs to Solaris’s comprehensive product line-up for state-of-the-art public transport. The clean lines of
