Nissan restarts company baseball teams in Japan

Both headquarters and Nissan Motor Kyushu teams to resume activities

YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. announces today that the Nissan Motor Headquarters Baseball Club (Headquarters Baseball Club) and the Nissan Motor Kyushu Baseball Club (Kyushu Baseball Club) will restart their activities in Japan. The Kyushu Baseball Club and the Headquarters Baseball Club are to resume their activities in 2024 and 2025, respectively, upon approval by the Japan Amateur Baseball Association.

The activities of both clubs were suspended in 2009 as part of measures taken to address effects of the Global Financial Crisis.

Toru Ihara, senior vice president and chief HR officer, said: “As the business environment is rapidly changing in the automotive industry, we need to change. To grow as a company, we need to reform our corporate culture to raise employee awareness and foster a sense of unity. By bringing back these two baseball clubs, we aim to accelerate our transformation, increase employee engagement, and contribute to local communities.”

The Headquarters Baseball Club played in the Intercity Baseball Tournament and Japanese National Championships a total of 45 times. Both are nationwide baseball tournaments and the club won the championship three times. The Headquarters Baseball Club will be based in Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Prefecture.

The Kyushu Baseball Club has played in both tournaments 15 times. It will be based in Kanda Town, Fukuoka Prefecture.

Both clubs will aim to again play in both tournaments. They will also work to contribute to the development of sports culture through holding baseball classes and participating in local sports events.
