Gasgas enjoys great start to UCI E-Enduro World Cup in Italy

The eagerly awaited #ucieenduroworldcup finally got underway in Italy with both #gasgas MOTOREX #racing and #gasgas SRAM #racing out in force. Top results all-round were highlighted by a career-best 10th for #alexfayolle and 14th for #alexmarin in his E-Enduro debut.

  • GASGAS MOTOREX Racing’s #alexfayolle places top 10 at round one
  • GASGAS SRAM Racing’s #alexmarin debuts with 14th overall
  • Nine stages in Pietra Ligure made for a busy day of racing

The race season is go for the #gasgas bicycles crew! With the countdown over, both #gasgas MOTOREX #racing and #gasgas SRAM #racing arrived in Pietra Ligure in Italy for the opening round of the #ucieenduroworldcup (E-EDR). A solid day on the trails during Thursday’s practice put the team in good spirits heading into Saturday’s race day.

Nine stages, including two uphill power stages, across a 58-kilometre-long course ensured an exciting start to the championship.

Feeling good in practice, #gasgas MOTOREX Racing’s #alexfayolle began his day with a pair of eighth place results on the first two stages. Remaining close to the leaders on the power stages, he capped off his day with a top six time on the final stage to take an impressive 10th.

Making his E-EDR debut, #gasgas SRAM Racing’s #alexmarin was eager to absorb as much knowledge as he could in Pietra Ligure. Proving fast on the downhill stages, he held his own on the power stage too. Seventh on the final stage behind Fayolle for an eventual 14th puts him in a confident mood for the races to come.

For #gasgas MOTOREX Racing’s #simoncarlsson his result of 24th doesn’t do him justice. A heavy crash one week prior to #racing left him slightly second hand arriving to Pietra Ligure. Crashing in practice left him unsure of starting, but our Swede is made of tough stuff, and he wanted to race. With a ninth on the first power stage, Simon will be sure to bounce back at round two.

After a great Thursday practice, #gasgas SRAM #racing mounted Johannes Fischbach’s race ended before it got going. Hitting a rock, he was forced to call it a day on stage one.

The #ucieenduroworldcup continues with round two in Leogang, Austria on June 15-18.

Alex Fayolle (GASGAS MOTOREX Racing): “Practice on Thursday went well. I felt good on the bike and knew a top 10 could be possible. I’ve been trying to achieve this result for a while, so I’m happy to get it done at round one, especially in such a competitive class. I’ve found some things to work on next, so I’m already thinking about more from round two.”

Alex Marin (GASGAS SRAM Racing): “For my first ever E-Enduro, it was one to remember. I was strong on the downhills, but I still need to build my speed in the power stages. I wasn’t quite expecting 14th already, so it’s been a positive start that can only get better from here!”

Simon Carlsson (GASGAS MOTOREX Racing): “I really had to dig deep today to race. I crashed hard one week ago training and then had another crash during practice that gave me a bad cut in my arm. It’s tough, but that’s how #racing goes. I’ll heal up, regroup, and come back fighting for round two.”

Johannes Fischbach (GASGAS SRAM Racing): “After training everything was feeling pretty good. This terrain is hard to adapt to, but I was confident I could. Unfortunately, I hit a rock pretty hard on the first stage and it ultimately cut my day short.”
