Fluit, the 100% sustainable chair by Actiu, wins an If Design Award

The Fluit chair which is made of completely recycled polypropylene and fibreglass, has been awarded in the category of Product for Retail & Public spaces.

Fluit, perfect for hybrid spaces, is the result of the first collaboration between #Actiu and the Italian studio Archirivolto #design.

Castalla (Alicante), 26 April - The Fluit chair by #Actiu, a specialist in the manufacture of professional and contract furniture, has been recognised with an If #design Award in the Product category for Retail & Public spaces. Fluit, which is the result of the first collaboration between #Actiu and the Italian studio Archirivolto #design, displays its possibilities in hybrid spaces that combine different uses.

Fluit is a sustainable chair created entirely from recycled materials, specifically polypropylene and 30% fibreglass, and is in line with Actiu's philosophy of sustainability and circular economy. All its materials are certified by GreenWorld Compounding and, in the case of plastic, they are post-consumer materials from the agri-food sector.

Fluit stands out for its fluidity and sensitivity materialised in a slender and robust piece capable of adapting to different corporate and hospitality environments.

"The awarding of this prestigious prize to Fluit is a source of pride for all of us at #Actiu. Fluit, so called because of the fluidity of its shapes, is an eco-designed chair. Its shapes allow it to be manufactured with a minimum use of material, which is distributed homogeneously and optimally. This material comes from plastic waste from local farmers' crates. A unique chair on the market, whose architecture and #design blend into any environment. A tractor project that has taken us one step further in innovation and sustainability", says Actiu's Brand Reputation director and advisor, Soledat Berbegal.

In terms of #design, Fluit is inspired by a 16th century Dutch sailing ship named Fluyt, a sturdy vessel that was larger than a merchant ship. The designers of Archirivolto #design have conceived a transverse, linear piece with a fluid architecture that, thanks to technology, provides lightness, aesthetics and stability. A sinuous and static object, without any flat surface, which seems to initiate a movement.

It is manufactured by means of gas injection, an innovative industrial process that reinforces resistance and provides a delicate finish that is soft to the touch. The polypropylene mix enriched with glass fibre strengthens the resistance of the chair, which can be stacked up to six units and is particularly suitable for contract environments such as offices, schools, conference rooms, etc

"The fundamental principle of the #design of this chair is sustainability, very much in line with the philosophy of the #Actiu Technology Park and the work philosophy of a company that cares for materials and takes technological innovation very much into account", says Matilde Sessolo, designer of Archirivolto.

Giacomo Fimia, senior designer at the Italian studio, says: "The #design and manufacture of Fluit involved very interesting research into materials, starting initially with waste from the sea, which eventually led to discarded fruit crates from an area near Actiu's headquarters, in line with its Km 0 production philosophy of using recovered materials".

In the manufacture of Fluit, the polypropylene is enriched with glass fibre to strengthen the resistance of a chair that can be stacked up to six chair units and be used in indoor environments and also in outdoor covered terraces, for its aesthetic and ultraviolet protection quality. Fluit is available with and without arms and also in a stool version.

It can also incorporate a padded cushion for added comfort and comes in a wide range of trendy colour combinations: mustard, white, black, grey and #green.

Fluit is particularly suited to the new hybrid spaces, which respond to the new ways of living, working, travelling and enjoying connected to the human need to socialise. These hybrid spaces allow different uses and different profiles to be housed in the same environment which, thanks to the #interiordesign and furniture, generate dynamic and personalised experiences.
