How to create the perfect Mediterranean-style home using Casalgrande Padana porcelain stoneware tiles
As the name suggests, this style originates in Mediterranean countries, combining trends from Greece, Italy, and Spain and influences from North Africa. Mediterranean-style architecture needs to protect from the summer heat naturally. Therefore, buildings are typically square with white exteriors and airy interiors with high ceilings.
In all its versions – from maritime chic to coastal style – the Mediterranean colour palette includes the blues of the sea and the sky, the greens of lush coastal vegetation, pearl grey, sand, and white. White is a natural choice, as it reflects sunlight and helps keep exposed rooms a little cooler. Bleached wood-effect or stone-effect porcelain stoneware tiles make the perfect Mediterranean-style flooring. Cementine tiles are an ideal alternative, thanks to their Arabian, Spanish, and Italian-inspired decorative patterns.
Arches, ceilings or suspended ceilings with exposed wooden beams painted the same colour as the walls, a patio, and a terrace are typical of a Mediterranean home. Other distinctive features include raffia or rope details, voluminous white curtains fluttering in the sea breeze, rattan or wood furniture, natural fabrics like linen and cotton, wicker chairs and tables, raw wood objects, terracotta jars, scented essences, plants, and brightly coloured flowers.
This design style creates the relaxing atmosphere of the beach, perfect for people who love nature and the sea. The Mediterranean style is elegant, simple, and innovative. And, with a few adjustments, you can even recreate it in a city apartment and not just in a beach house.
