CASA #seat kicked off the second edition of Merry Days yesterday by showcasing the lighting of the advent calendar and inaugurating the Christmas village designed by Christian Escribà for the occasion. The #event was attended by Christian Escribà himself, graphic artist PeBe, author of the advent calendar illustrations, CASA #seat director Gabriele Palma and the President of #seat and #cupra, #waynegriffiths.
During his speech at the start of the #event, Griffiths commented: “At CASA #seat we’re part of the open, proud and cosmopolitan Barcelona. We want to help the city get the attention it deserves. We need a business-friendly, optimistic Barcelona. Living here is a privilege.”
The more than 180 guests, including deputy mayor of Barcelona Jaume Collboni, were also treated to a concert by the Fantasia Quintet, a band that performed a repertoire that included all the classics, from Mariah Carey’s All I want for Christmas to hits by Michael Bublé, Frank Sinatra and Justin Bieber.
Following the success of the previous edition, which attracted more than 65,000 visitors, CASA #seat is once again providing Barcelona with a magical space in which to experience special moments with the family. Gabriele Palma explained: “Implementing this project was made possible by the recognition garnered through 48h Open House Barcelona, the talent of illustrator PeBe and the genius of Christian Escribà. The result is extraordinary and we’re proud to offer it to our city.”
A very sweet Christmas village
Once again, CASA #seat relied on the pastry chef Christian Escribà to decorate the space and design the three-dimensional figures that fill the three floors with sweets and pastries. The construction of this grand decoration required the work of 25 pastry chefs and features 80 kilos of chocolate, 100 kilos of meringue and 150 kilos of sweets.
The fanciful journey begins with a welcome from a theatrical harlequin, who invites visitors to enter and immerse themselves in the fantasy of this Christmas village. Along the way, visitors will find a house made of chocolate and a merry-go-round, classic Christmas figures such as reindeer and elves, and other surprises such as a friendly penguin. Christian Escribà, who created the confectionery installation, commented: “It’s a pleasure to participate in CASA SEAT’s Merry Days for the second year running. Our job is to make #people happy, and with this project we’re able to give the families of Barcelona the gift of optimism.”
The traditional CASA #seat Christmas tree was also set up and trimmed. Called the Tree of Wishes, it lights up when visitors make a wish. In addition, using an electronic device, children will be able to decorate their own digital tree, which will be projected on CASA SEAT’s main screen.
A factory of toys and historic cars
The decoration continues upstairs on the first floor, where the space has been converted into a toy factory and children can greet Santa Claus from 1 to 24 December and tell him what they want for Christmas and give their letters to the Three Wise Men’s royal page from 27 to 5 January.
Visitors can also have fun with a virtual game, created by two students from the #seat Apprentice School, which consists of helping Father Christmas to store presents.
The lower ground floor houses a collection of mini #seat pedal cars that fits in well with the rest of the decoration. Youngsters can climb aboard reproductions of some of the car company’s historic vehicles, such as the #seat 127, the 600 convertible or the 850 Spider.
The space can be visited from Monday to Sunday from 10 am to 8:30 pm, except on 6 and 25 December, and 1 and 6 January. Access to Merry Days is free with prior reservation at www.casa.seat.
An advent calendar paying tribute to Barcelona
On the exterior, a large advent calendar is displayed on the façade of Avenida Diagonal and Paseo de Gracia. Each day will pay tribute to the city by revealing an illustration of one of its iconic buildings adorned with Christmas motifs. The order of appearance will be chronological according to their date of construction, from the 12th century to the present day. The first window is dedicated to Sant Pau del Camp, a former Benedictine monastery located in the heart of the Raval district, of which the church and cloister have been preserved.
This initiative is being carried out thanks to the designs of Pablo Benito, PeBe, a Barcelona-based graphic artist specialising in architectural illustration, who said he was “very excited” to be able to create the CASA #seat advent calendar. “I’m passionate about architecture and I’ve been drawing buildings and spaces in the city for almost 10 years now” he added.
The subject matter of the 24 windows was chosen in collaboration with 48h Open House Barcelona, a non-profit cultural association that works to disseminate the city’s architectural heritage.
A gastronomic Christmas
The CASA #seat by Ametller Origen restaurant has also prepared for Christmas, and during this time of year offers visitors the chance to complete their experience with a traditional snack of churros with hot chocolate. For lunch and dinner service, a special menu has been prepared combining the most traditional dishes, such as Catalan stew, along with other innovative proposals such as marinated salmon tartare cones.
Business dinners will be the star of the evenings, as the restaurant’s dining room offers a private area for groups in a space where the interior design by Lázaro Rosa-Violán combines with the Lux Natura installation by the artist Raül Beteta.
