New Zuzulu space layout system

Alki, in partnership with #design studio #iratzoki & #lizaso, presents a brand new space layout system that focuses on the user’s wellbeing.

Today, the hybridization of spaces is in full swing. Working, meeting, drinking a cup of coffee, holding an informal meeting… all these activities interweave whether at the #office, in a hotel or a public area.

The Zuzulu system is the fruit of a long process of reflection driven by the desire to organise space in the most pleasant way. We sought the perfect balance between privacy and co-working so it always feels the right place to be. To achieve this, we analysed uses, positions, heights, traffic flows and thus developed a consistent and contained architecture that fits out the space in a comfortable way. Seven components and a 170cm x 170cm frame form a modular system that enables a multitude of needs to be met.
“We realized that we didn’t need a closed space in order to feel protected. Simply the fact of leaning on a single panel was sufficient to relax and feel good. Here, we have an engaging layout with contained, comfortable areas. Just right for fitting out a lounge, individual #office, meeting area or even a corner bar, reception or canteen with traffic flows and eye heights that maintain privacy.” – #iratzoki & Lizaso

The solid oak panels and fabric-upholstered partitions deliver a touch of warmth and an emotional connection to the work environment that is an intrinsic part of Alki’s DNA. The brand’s different items of furniture integrate perfectly into this universe: #office chairs, stools, armchairs and other coffee tables…

Zuzulu or zizeilu is a Basque word coming from the Latin subsellium: sub (underneath) and selluim (seat). In Basque Country farmhouses, the Zuzulu could be found in the kitchen near the fireplace. Its wide back section provided protection from draughts. It could be used as a both a seat and a storage chest and there was a small folding table in the centre. So it was a piece of furniture that was used by the whole family thanks to its multiple functions: seat and partition as well as a table and container.
