Milan-Sanremo dominator Matej Mohorič in Beking: “Cycling helps us build a better future”

The Slovenian champion returns to the Riviera to support the #green philosophy of commuting.

The unforgettable descent from the Poggio that earned him victory in 'La Primavera' made #matejmohoric one of the absolute stars of the Classics at the start of the season. Now the Slovenian champion returns home to the Riviera, just a few kilometres from his great seasonal success, to participate in #bekingmonaco2022 and close the season in the sign of sustainability and solidarity.

"I believe that events like #beking are an excellent way to educate and promote cycling," he explained. "We share a passion for the #sport at a professional and competitive level, but not only that, we promote cycling as a way to keep ourselves healthy and safeguard our well-being, as well as a smart way to move around the city more efficiently."

Mohorič also dwelt on the important role of these events, which give visibility to the problem of pollution and the need to find easily applicable solutions that help alleviate the dispersion of CO2 on the planet, as well as increase the well-being of its inhabitants.

"I think cycling can help us achieve a better future," he said. "In some countries #people use it to go to work and to commute around the city: if we followed their example, we could do something good for our health and have fun at the same time, without wasting time in traffic jams, locked in our cars. Commuting would also allow us to interact socially, perhaps cycling with our friends or taking the long way home. Moreover, bikes take up much less space than cars. Today there are also e-bikes that cater to the needs of the less fit. In short, there are no longer many excuses: the revolution is possible."

It is a #green consciousness that fits perfectly with cycling and biking; it is important to develop it from an early age and to awaken it in adults. This is just one of the objectives of the #event, which aims to involve families, cyclists and institutions in a big party that raises wareness of road safety education and the transformation of cities into liveable and safe places, where coexistence can always be respectful and peaceful.

"We have a duty to teach children to be patient and to respect traffic rules," continued the Slovenian champion. "Together we need to work on improving the infrastructure for cycling, building bike lanes and redesigning roads to make it easier and safer to switch from car to bike. We can all benefit from this change."

On 27 November, #matejmohoric will line up with other colleagues at the start of the city criterium dedicated to professionals, challenge fans in the Pro-Am race and be one of the protagonists of the #event that promises to be a great mix of champions, families and solidarity.

"I hope it will be a day of fun for everyone," he concluded. "I invite everyone to participate with their family, it will be great to promote and celebrate cycling. Above all it will be special to do it together."
