An unlucky Baldassarri is 7th in Race 2 at Portimao, only a crash at the end deprives Sebestyen of the top ten

It was an emotional Sunday for the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team, who took less than they deserved in Race 2 at #portimao, at the end of a race that was indecipherable right up to the last few metres. #lorenzobaldassarri, involved in a contact, finished the race 7th, while a crash condemned Sebestyen.

After completing the warm up in 10th and 15th place respectively, Baldassarri and Sebestyen took to the track for Race 2. After a first study phase of the race, Lorenzo managed with class to move into the top positions: four laps from the end the Italian rider was involved in an incident with Tuuli, which forced him first to go out the track, then to serve a long lap penalty, imposed on him by the race direction. Baldassarri thus was in 7th position and, with no chance to recover, ended the race in the same position.

It was an even more bitter end to the race for Sebestyen, who had an excellent race until the final stages, so much so that he climbed up to 9th position, thanks to a truly excellent race pace. However, during the last lap the Hungarian rider unfortunately ran into a crash at turn 14, which put an end to his race.

By virtue of the weekend's results Baldassarri remains in second place in the overall standings, on 329 points, while Sebestyen climbs to 23 points. In the team standings the Evan Bros. #worldssp Yamaha Team maintains second position, with 352 points. The team from Ravenna will be back on track from 21st to 23rd October at the Argentinean circuit of San Juan, for the tenth round of the 2022 season.

Lorenzo Baldassarri:
"I am really bitter about the penalty I received, as I consider myself blameless and, in general, a rider who has always respected the rules. Apart from that it was not a good day for us, but we are not giving up: already from tomorrow we will start working with a view to the next round".

Peter Sebestyen:
"What a shame. I managed to put together a very good race, recovering positions despite the excursion off the track to avoid a rider who had crashed in front of me. On the last lap I was able to pass Vinales for ninth position, but unfortunately I crashed. I am disappointed, but we can look forward to the future with optimism".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
: "We absolutely do not agree with the penalty given to Baldassarri, as we do not hold him responsible for the contact with Tuuli, who did not leave space for Lorenzo, causing the incident. We are very sorry for the race direction's decision, which compromised the race for Lorenzo, who once again gave an excellent performance. I am also very sorry for Sebestyen, who due to a small mistake at the end did not pick up any points".
