Musical October at Casa Seat

Barcelona, 29 September 2022

  • The musical agenda for the month includes jazz, pop and classical music concerts by young local and international talents
  • The space will once again join the 48H Open House Barcelona festival, the annual architecture #event, and give access to the building’s private spaces

CASA #seat will be offering a varied cultural programme in October, with must-see events for those interested in the latest musical and literary novelties.

The musical agenda will be opened by Lluís Capdevila on 1 October. After premiering “Social” at #casaseat last December, he’s returning in the company of double bass player Joan Chamorro and drummer Santi Colomer. Together they will offer a repertoire of jazz classics, exploring the spontaneity of swing.

American multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Jake Sherman will perform on the night of Friday 14, accompanied by Barcelona composer Lucas Delgado. Together they’ll offer a show that includes original music by both artists and a few special surprises. It’ll be a great opportunity to enjoy a show that effortlessly combines humour and music through songs.

On the following morning, Saturday 15th, the auditorium will be filled with music with Breaking Bach, a concert by Carles Marigó in which he will offer his particular interpretation of the music of J. S. Bach, drawing on influences such as electronic music and hip hop. In the afternoon, the new edition of BCN Z sessions will feature the band Besmaya, who will bring their indie pop sound mixed with funk rhythms. The two recitals closing the month’s musical agenda will be on Saturday 29th. In the morning, Bernat Buzzi is giving a clarinet and piano recital, and in the afternoon, the talented 12-year-old Álvaro Esteve Alcaina will be giving a piano concert playing pieces by Chopin, Albéniz and Beethoven.

Turning to literature, on the 14th the monthly Literary Cafés is hosting the official presentation of the book Imatges Latents (Arcàdia, 2022), by Joan Fontcuberta. The literary critic Jorge Carrión will be talking to Fontcuberta about how the evolution of photography has been linked to technological innovations, advances in science and progress in communications.

Portraits, dedicated to solar energy, will remain at the #casaseat facilities until 29 October, and guided tours can be requested during the month through the space website. The exhibition is a journey through Asia, Africa, America and Europe during which Rubén Salgado Escudero photographed people without access to electricity. The collection of images illuminated only by solar lamps that highlights the transformative power of electricity production from solar energy.

Sustainability and D&I

On the morning of 3 October, there will be a dialogue between two experts in D&I (Diversity and Inclusion) under the title “The benefits of diversity in companies”. Eva Vila-Massanas, co-founder of WeEQUAL, and Amalia Santallúsia, Fluidra’s global ESG director, will explain the real need to incorporate diversity and inclusion in companies and organisations.

On the 5th, a round table of professionals will address the strategies and challenges for the development of sustainable cities. The guests will be Pablo Vidarte, CEO of Bioo, who has developed the project that generates electricity from plants and microorganisms; Aleksandar Ivancic, partner & senior consultant at Aiguasol and Patricia Aymà, executive president and CTO at VEnvirotech Biotechnology. The session will be moderated by Cristina Sáez, a journalist specialising in science, health and the environment.

The cycle “The New Barcelona - Moments Estel-lars” will continue in October, with guest speaker Pau Relat, president of Fira de Barcelona, who will talk to journalist Toni Aira about the recovery of the trade fair sector.

Psychiatrist Pablo Malo is the confirmed speaker at the monthly TEDxBarcelona Salon who, on the 19th, will talk about his book The Dangers of Morality: Why morality is a threat to 21st century societies and will debate with the audience on questions such as What is morality? or Is it bad to be good?
