  • The #award also recognises his leadership at the #cupra brand, which he co-founded

Wayne Griffiths, President of #Seat & #cupra, has received the #protagonistadelmotor2021award from the Spanish daily #elmundo. The #award recognises his commitment to the #automotive industry at a key moment, as well as his vision to turn Spain into a benchmark for electrification and for electric vehicles in Europe.

This #award acknowledges the leadership of #Seat S.A. as a driving force for the transformation of the country with the Future: Fast Forward project, which has managed to create the largest business grouping in the history of Spanish industry. This country-wide project aims to mobilize 10 billion euros if the PERTE application is successful. This would represent an unprecedented and historic investment in Spain.

Wayne Griffiths received the #award and said: "Being part of this Hall of Fame of the #automotive industry is a recognition of all the people with whom I’ve worked during my career and recognizes our company’s commitment to take a big step forward towards the electrification in Spain and ensure that the country remains on the podium of manufacturers in Europe. It is also a recognition of the success of the #cupra brand, which proves that the electric cars do not have to be boring and only rational, they can be exciting and emotional."

The #award also recognises Wayne Griffiths' leadership in the creation, impulse and success of the #cupra brand, which was launched in 2018 with the aim to challenge the status quo, reinvent sportiness and offer something unique, different and unconventional to the next generation. Since its launch, #cupra has exceeded all expectations with more than 200,000 units sold. The brand's medium-term goal is to sell 500,000 cars a year, to become a fully electric brand by 2030 and to grow globally in new markets such as Australia, where it was launched at the beginning of the summer.

The #award ceremony took place in #Madrid in the presence of many personalities and leaders from the #automotive industry, as well as the Second Vice-President of the Government of Spain and Minister for Labour and Social Economy, Yolanda Díaz.

Wayne Griffiths joins the list of #automotive leaders who have been recognised with El Mundo’s "Protagonista del Motor” #award for their relevance and decisive influence on the evolution of the industry in Spain. Among them, some of the sector's executives such as Francisco J. García Sanz (Volkswagen Group), Wendelin Wiedeking (Porsche SE), Luca de Meo (Renault) and Dieter Zestche (Daimler AG).
