Milan, 7 June 2022 - #caliaitalia, an established company founded in Matera in 1965 and engaged in the #design and production of sofas and armchairs (in leather and fabric) and the oldest company in the Basilicata Upholstered Furniture District, returns with renewed enthusiasm to the ‘Salone Internazionale del Mobile’ in Milan.
The new year started with celebrations for #caliaitalia, which a few weeks ago became part of the ‘Special Register of Historical Brands of National Interest’ established by the Ministry of Economic Development with the aim of protecting and enhancing companies of excellence in Italy.
Calia Italia’s symbolic participation marks an unmissable occasion to celebrate the important recognition established by the MISE dedicated to brands that have been registered for at least 50 years as well as a return to normality after two years that were marred by the pandemic.
‘OXIGENE’ is Calia Italia’s chosen symbol around which the marketing and #design concept for the ‘Salone del Mobile 2022’ is developed. It recalls oxygen (life) but above all rebirth, a sign of the great return to the traditional format of the fair.
‘OXIGENE’, a symbol highlighted by a double ‘C’, represents the history of our brand and characterises the visual language within our stand whilst also introducing the concept of a ‘Curvy Style’. Aesthetics originating from ‘the circle’ give rise to a new trend in the style of #caliaitalia upholstered furniture.
Our new collections, presented in a large space that not only recalls the values that characterise #caliaitalia as a ‘National Historical Brand’ but also our land, Matera (once a European Capital of Culture), interpret the latest trends in the sector to respond to the desire for contemporary comfort and functionality.
At the ‘Salone del Mobile’ #caliaitalia presents a ‘trend focused’ offer with a showcase of models that take inspiration from and interpret all the main market trends. It represents our continuous search for solutions that can best serve all customers. Indeed the wide range of new products proposed by #caliaitalia can satisfy all needs, tastes and different uses of upholstered furniture – from conversation to comfort to rest.
‘Curvy Style’ and 'Young at Heart’ are concepts that characterise a large part of the collection with a rich range of proposals all designed for those who wish to give a cool and daring touch to their living spaces. ‘Modern Vintage’ is a new proposal that combines essentiality, Italian #design and attention to detail thanks to the use of new coverings. ‘100% Functional’ gives rise to a perfect synthesis of style and functionality thanks to rigorous #design and new mechanisms. Finally, ‘Eco Friendliness’ features the use of innovative reused microfibre to promote eco-sustainability.
Calia Italia sofas, armchairs, sofa beds and footstools are created to offer comfort in every moment of daily life and are inspired by the deep values of our Lucanian land. In fact all of the new products featuring at the 60th ‘Salone del Mobile’ are based on these values and include: The Daisy modular sofa, the Dafne sofa-bed (designed by Daniele della Porta), Quadra, the Zip modular sofa, the Gerrit armchair, the imposing Regal_e, the expansion of the Gourmandise collection, the enrichment of the gourmand wardrobe and the new corner versions of the Dragees model.
The quality of our products is recognised in Italy and abroad because #caliaitalia has been able to combine innovation and local craftsmanship culture through an approach that is devoted to research and growth. Targeted investments in new technologies have made it possible to implement logistics and enhance all those skills and craftsmanship expertise that has proudly been handed down to this day.
2022 Stand Concept
Created as a natural evolution of the virtual showroom that has characterised the #caliaitalia.com website since 2020 (together with our product configurator) the Milan 2022 stand emphasises the new image of #caliaitalia. It takes up the typical colours of the Mediterranean and the territory to enhance the tension between the shapes and tones of its products. It is a place dedicated to feeling good and at home, a space that not only recounts the values linked to Matera but also the company’s 57 years of history. It presents and narrates a collection that interprets the latest trends in the upholstered furniture sector in terms of:

Models
Calia Italia is proposing the ‘Curvy Style’ for many of its models at the 60th ‘Salone del Mobile’ in Milan. This style is an ode to the more ‘rounded’ aesthetic as well as being an interpretation of the trendy 1970s style of the moment. The ‘all curves’ style not only gives the products great aesthetic impact, but also enhances their versatility of use and maximum seating comfort.
Coverings
Our upholstery presents new products that interpret current trends by combining them with the theme of sustainability. New fabrics and recycled microfibres both reinforce one of the star collections of ‘Supersalone 2021’, the ‘Gourmandise’, whilst also reinforcing the presentation of our new sofa bed collection. In addition, our new ‘modern vintage’ trends are also showcased in our upholstery. Our stand’s star models such as the new ‘Zip’ modular sofa and the new ‘Gerrit’ armchair see their retro-modern style enhanced by a new vintage leather, an ‘antiqued’ leather reminiscent of the 1920s. This new product underlines the experience of our Lucanian company, which has a long tradition as a leading manufacturer of leather sofas. In addition, bouclé, a fabric that was very much in vogue in the 1960s and 1970s, is also re-proposed in Milan in a modern interpretation.
Mechanisms
Our Milan 2022 collection reaffirms Calia Italia’s ongoing quest for comfort through a wide range of mechanisms that can increase seat depth and relaxation functions through the use of liftable backrests, tilting armrests, ultra-slim electric footrest mechanisms, reclining headrests and recliner mechanisms.
Designer Partners 2022 and Sustainability
Daniele della Porta, ‘Partner Designer’ of #caliaitalia will be the star of our 2022 exhibition with a new sofa bed, the ‘Dafne’, which completes the new offer of the Matera-based brand. It is a range of multi-faceted sofas that combine the best mix of conversation and relaxation sofas whilst also guaranteeing market best maximum comfort – even while sleeping. Our new offer is also emphasised through the stylistic customisation of the mattresses that take up the theme of the Double C, our brand’s historical icon. It is a true ‘signature’ of our brand that represents our ‘identifying sign’ spanning our new identity to individual elements such as our mattresses. In addition, our new range of sofa beds underlines our commitment to sustainability also with our covers thanks to a new 100% recyclable microfibre that is part of a broader commitment to corporate social responsibility. Indeed #caliaitalia is continuing to invest in the development of increasingly sustainable products and it is a strategy that is based on the principles of energy saving with particular attention to the search for eco-sustainable materials that fits into the new paradigm of production and consumption of the circular economy.

DRAGEES corner – The ‘yummiest’ new product of our Gourmandise star collection
The ever-popular chocolate is the star of the living room in its new corner versions.
Designed in the round, it is perfect for the centre of the room. Characterised by the considerable width of the corner version and versatile for any composition, your space is shaped, and the result is full comfort.
Ideal for large, bourgeois rooms, it appears suspended, light and inviting thanks to its generous, plump shapes. Late night conversations are always welcome while sipping coffee with your favourite DRAGEES.
DAFNE – The new Sofa Bed collection. The flagship model that focuses on design
From the pencil of Daniele della Porta comes ‘Dafne’, a sofa with a modern #design and sinuous, rounded lines capable of changing appearance without giving in to compromise. Its name matches that of the nymph who preferred to turn herself into a laurel plant rather than give in to unwanted love.
Designed for living spaces, in the company of the ‘Milla’ armchair, this model makes for a very comfortable welcome.
During the day ‘Dafne’ is a comfortable place to spend hours in perfect relaxation, while at night, with a few simple movements, the ‘Dafne’ sofa transforms into a cosy bed with a comfortable mattress. It is unobtrusive in the larger bed version (with a 160cm mattress it can reach 205cm in length) and is ‘accommodating’ in the relaxation version.
DAISY - The new product par excellence of the ‘Curvy Style’ strand for a young, dynamic and fashionable public – not only in terms of style but also in terms of choice of coverings
With ‘Daisy’ you enter the world of marshmallows. Sweetly designed to welcome young families eager for cuddles and capable of transferring love in all its forms. It is a versatile model because living spaces must be experienced to the full. It features corners, armchairs and sofas with and without chaise-longe armrests that all make your living space joyful and comfortable. Everything is conceived in a playful way because we believe our existence should be imbued with smiles. Even its upholstery is no coincidence being available exclusively in 3D fabric that allows ‘Daisy’ to express its young soul as the youngest in our collection. It is a typical expression of modernity and stylish urban living spaces and a young proposal for those who feel young.
Wonderful accessories recall the simplest flower par excellence, the ‘daisy’ and between the ‘he loves you’ and ‘he loves you not’ – love always wins!
‘Daisy’ has compact versions (2 ½ and 3 seaters) and modular elements that can be combined to create linear or corner compositions. On request, compositions can end with a semi-circular meridian to accentuate the ‘curvy sofa’ style.
REGAL_E - The new product that combines the ‘Curvy Style’ with new functional solutions such as a liftable backrest and an electrically retractable leg rest – a highlight in the Superior collection’s offering
Imposing, soft and with sinuous contours, ‘Regal_e’, savours the present and takes us back to the 1970s whilst also projecting us into the future. It fits well into large living rooms thanks to its versatile modularity for a high level of comfort, ensured by the presence of electric and manual mechanisms. It expresses its full potential with the raised backrests that give it an authoritative REGAL look. Available in leather, fabric or microfibre, it is embellished with slender metal feet, available in different finishes. It features backrests that can be raised manually thanks to an easy-to-operate mechanism and is also equipped with electrically retractable leg-rests in an ultra-slim #design. Both mechanisms guarantee maximum comfort.
The total height of the model with raised backrest is 103 cm.
QUADRA - Recalls some of Calia Italia’s best-selling styles such as the armrest inspired by the Elisir model
Rigorous and linear, with classic yet modern proportions, this model is designed for discreet living spaces. It perfectly integrates in the living area and is essential to the point of containing a comfortable bed with a 13 or 16 cm high mattress (the latter only for the 2 ½ and 3-seater versions). With extra space that is not only added at the table, optimising space is its main objective.
Thanks to its corner versions it is also versatile. What’s more, its fabric and microfibre cover (that are entirely removable and environmentally friendly) also make it practical whilst in its leather-covered versions it becomes more austere.
‘Quadra’ is perfect for any home environment.
ZIP - Presented with new upholstery inspired by the ‘Modern Vintage’ concept
Like many candy canes all neatly lined up, the modular ‘Zip’ with its calibrated corner versions optimises space and makes rooms comfortable and joyful. Characterised by the special quilted workmanship, which emphasises the soft, rounded look of the side, ‘Zip’ welcomes both young and mature users while also winking at the physically fit elderly!
While the fabric upholstery makes it versatile for any environment, in the retro-look vintage leather versions ‘Zip’ becomes a timeless product.
GERRIT - The new armchair that enhances the ‘Modern Vintage’ concept
This is a complex project created to complete the versions of the modular Zip model that has been developed in three variants.
The first was conceived without armrests, the second with slender leather armrests and finally, the third with armrests integrated into the circular tubular base.
As is often the case, the shape was conditioned in the workmanship by the materials used and the quilting of the front.
The result is reminiscent of the Bergère armchairs and in leather it is austere whilst in fabric it is very homely.
Comfort is ensured by the extraordinary balance achieved by the inclination of the back and seat.
Generous and cosy, ‘Gerrit’ is a modern interpretation of the classic reading armchair that is both new and familiar at the same time.
The inner part of the armchair is enriched by workmanship reminiscent of quilting, which continues on the footstool in continuity with the seat. The footstool has a trapezoidal shape that recalls the geometry of the armchair, integrating with it perfectly.
The armchair and footstool are available in the fixed version with metal feet or in the swivel version that rests on a spoked base, which is also suitable for business use.
In both versions, fixed or swivel, the ‘Gerrit’ can be fitted with regenerated leather armrests.
All components (foot, spoked base and armrests) are available in different finishes and/or colours which, combined with the chosen upholstery, can create numerous customised combinations.
Fly – Completing the range of up-and-over models
More than a sofa, this model is a place to live. Deep, elegant and supported by sturdy slender feet, it is designed in the round to be the true home fixture. With variable depth it is suitable for all occasions. The family finds refuge, recreation and in a word, ‘comfort’ here. The backrests feature a tilting system and when fully moved back make the ‘Fly’ model a true flying carpet. The mechanism concealed in the armrest allows a comfortable lying position and acts as a real support for the head.
It is the star of the living room in the wide and generous corner versions. The CL, while designed for maximum comfort, is limited in size but gives the composition dynamism. The quilting on the seat is designed to offer the user an embracing living experience.
