In preview of Milan Design Week 2022 Jaipur Rugs launches its new collection of Brahmaand hand-knotted rugs, designed by Ashiesh Shah, celebrating the primordial nature of the cosmos.

Jaipur Rugs is an Indian company specializing in #design and manufacture of the carpets knotted by hand. It will make part of Milan #design Week, from 6 to 12 June 2022, with the new collection of Brahmaand rugs, born from creativity of designer #ashieshshah reflecting on the wonders of the universe and ancient oriental astronomical studies.

Jaipur Rugs' attention to traditional manufacturing techniques has given rise to a production model rooted in the Indian territory: over 40,000 weavers work in five different regions thanks to looms and machinery that the company supplies door to door, guaranteeing support and enhancement of the ingenuity and manual skills of the artisans.

The Brahmaand collection was born from the idea of harnessing the vast imaginary linked to the cosmos in essential symbols represented through an intense and precise use of shades of indigo and blue and of geometries extracted from Indian architecture, reinterpreted as pure forms and archetypes.

The #design of the rugs comes from the studies that #ashieshshah conducted comparing ancient astral charts and representations of the sky, taking up the patterns of the main constellations. As in a return to the earth, the plan of the astronomical observatory of Jantar Mantar, in the city of Jaipur, is re-read to trace the map-like patterns of each carpet.

The elements of the collection, characterized by elongated, oval and circular profiles, arise from the frames as if they were mirrors of the sky, capable of reflecting the extension of space throughout its depth, putting the fascination of the cosmos in dialogue with man's attempts to study it and understand it.

Each carpet is produced in wool and silk processed through numerous manual operations. The weaving process culminates in the practices of Gultarash, through which the surface is leveled generating a special 3D texture, and of the Zardosi, which involves the creation of intricate contrasting embroidery.
