METZELER riders Guarneri, Verona and Edmondson are the leaders of their respective classes

In Portugal the second round of the Enduro World Championship took place and METZELER and its riders collect victories and podiums. Davide Guarneri snatches the provisional leadership from Brad Freeman's hands in the E3 class. Andrea Verona is increasingly the leader of E1 while in the Youth class the young English rider Harry Edmondson is still the leader.

Peso da Régua (Portugal), 16th May 2022 - The second GP of the FIM EnduroGP World Championship took place in Peso da Régua, a small village about an hour from Port and wine area where the renowned Port wine is produced. A weekend characterized by high temperatures alternating with strong rain showers that saw our riders compete with a very technical and fast race in pure Portuguese style and characterized by dry and brittle soils alternating with others more stony and particularly treacherous.

In the Enduro GP Andrea Verona, official GasGas rider, and Josep Garcia (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing), both reached the podium on both days of competition and are currently chasing the provisional leader by just one point of difference. Unlucky weekend for Beta riders who lose Steve Holcombe to injury after the Spanish GP while Brad Freeman injured his left hand in Peso da Régua.

METZELER supported rider Andrea Verona (Gas Gas Factory Racing) literally dominated the E1 class by winning both days of racing in the Portuguese GP. Thomas Oldrati (Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team) also ran two excellent days of race, collecting two well-deserved second places in the E1 class.

In the E2 class Josep Garcia (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) lost the leader of the provisional standings despite an excellent performance and two well-deserved second places. Steve Holcombe (Team Beta Factory Enduro) missed the Portuguese GP with a double injury to his left shoulder and right wrist.

For the first time the rider Davide Guarneri (Fantic Factory Team E / 50 Racing), with the new Fantic 300 equipped with the METZELER MCE 6 DAYS EXTREME, conquered the top step of the podium and is the leader of the E3 class. Brad Freeman (Team Beta Factory Enduro) had to settle for seventh place after winning Day One with a left wrist injury on opening day at Peso da Régua.

In the Junior class the best rider equipped with the METZELER MCE 6 DAYS EXTREME was Jed Etchells (Fantic D’Arpa Racing). The METZELER rider went to the podium twice in Junior, winning two second places. Roni Kytonen (Honda Racing RedMoto World Enduro Team), equipped with METZELER tires, failed to shine by failing to go beyond a fourth and eleventh place.

The provisional leader of the Youth is still Harry Edmondson (Fantic JET Racing), the English rider stubbornly won two second places at the GP of Portugal. Kevin Cristino (Fantic Factory Team E / 50 Racing) lost a few points; the supported METZELER rider won the Youth on Day One but did not go beyond a third place in the following day.

Archived the Portuguese GP, the FIM EnduroGP World Championship stops for a long break and then moves to Carpineti on 24, 25 and 26 June to compete in the Italian GP, the third round of the 2022 season.
