Eight ones at a stroke: Class 8 passed the milestone of 11,111,111 visitors to the Mercedes-Benz Museum

  • 11,111,111 visitors to the #mercedesbenz Museum since its opening in 2006
  • Class 8 of the Schönbein-Realschule from Metzingen bought the 11,111,111 ticket at 9.40 a.m. on 28 April 2022
  • The Museum is an important cultural experience for young visitors from the region

Stuttgart. Eight ones in a single day: any student would be delighted to get grades like this (in Germany getting a grade of “1” corresponds to getting an “A”). But on 28 April 2022 at the #mercedesbenz Museum, it wasn’t about achieving top marks. Instead, the number sequence 11,111,111 stood for a very special visitor record: 19 students from Class 8 from the Schönbein secondary school in Metzingen, together with their teachers, visited the Museum in #stuttgart and passed the impressive milestone of 11,111,111 visitors since the Museum opened in 2006.

Bettina Haussmann, head of the #mercedesbenz Museum, welcomed the school class and presented each pupil with a surprise goodie bag in addition to their admission tickets. #bettinahaussmann did not disclose who it was that actually got the 11,111,111th ticket. “This way, the visit will be remembered as something special by everyone,” Haussmann smiles. “I am so pleased that a school class from our own region has helped us reach this latest milestone in our visitor statistics. The young target group accounts for around five per cent of our total visitor numbers. The Museum’s appeal lies in the various educational projects and programmes that we offer, and of course in our permanent exhibition on the history of mobility,” says the Museum director.

Interactive experience for young visitors

As well as the permanent exhibition and special exhibitions, young guests at the #mercedesbenz Museum particularly enjoy the changing creative activities and participatory exhibitions. The six interactive stations “Experience generates knowledge”, put together in cooperation with the science centre experimenta from Heilbronn in the “Fascination of Technology” area on Level 0 of the Museum, have also proved very popular.

Since the Museum opened in 2006, all “milestone” visitors have always been given a personal welcome, among them guests from China and New Zealand. This is a reflection of the Museum’s international appeal. Indeed, before the pandemic, more than half of visitors regularly came from abroad, including many guests from China, the United States of America, France and India, for example.
