A legendary Peugeot Coupé 204 at the Tour Auto 2022

For the second year running, #peugeot is supporting the #tourauto2022, from 25 to 30 April, with the number 45 team of #francoisallain and #nicolasguenneteau in a legendary #peugeot204coupe. This very special car is an authentic #rally beast. It which first became famous in competition in the 1970s, before becoming a TV celebrity, thanks to a magnificent restoration that was the subject of a report in 2021 in François Allain's programme Vintage Mecanic.

A team crazy about cars and PEUGEOT

The #peugeot204coupe will be driven by a strong team for its third joint participation in the Tour #auto.

François Allain is a famous #automotive journalist. Creator of the #peugeot 204 and 304 Club in 1990, he is undoubtedly the journalist who has written the most about PEUGEOT's #heritage. Over the past 25 years, he has produced hundreds of articles in the written press, hundreds of television reports and written five reference books on the brand's various models. He hosts the Vintage Mecanic TV show on RMC Découverte.

Nicolas Guenneteau, a member of the #peugeot 204 and 304 club, is a well-known car restorer and a contributor to the TV show Vintage Mecanic, for which he has restored several #peugeot models: the 201 for the Normandy Beach Race, the red #peugeot 304 used in Les Carnets de Julie food show, and the #peugeot 204 Group 4 coupé entered in the Tour #auto.

The #peugeot 204 coupé

The Group 4 #peugeot204coupe restored in the TV show Vintage Mecanic on RMC Découverte in 2021 will be on the starting grid of the Tour #auto for the second time. When it first took part in 2021, it was celebrating the 45th anniversary of its title of vice-champion of the French Regional Rallies, obtained in 1976. Another anniversary this year, as it was also vice-champion of the French Regional #rally Championship in 1977. And, 45 years later, it is the Allain/Guenneteau tandem that takes over from the Restellini/Forest team that made this car a star in the 1970s.

With its original equipment, preparation and accessories still intact, this #peugeot204coupe (produced from 1966 to 1970) had been abandoned at the back of a car park for 43 years, waiting for a "resurrection". Nowadays, the number of 204 Coupés modified for #racing at the time, and with titles to boot, can be counted on the fingers of one hand.

Host of the Vintage Mecanic programme, #francoisallain has a very special relationship with the 204 coupé: his first car after he obtained his driving licence in the 1980s was precisely a white 204 coupé. It is therefore a return to his roots for this classic car enthusiast. #nicolasguenneteau, his faithful accomplice in the same show, is also a fan of classic cars from that era.

This will be the fifth Tour #auto for François as a driver, and the third for Nicolas as co-driver. Complementary, François and Nicolas work well together and firmly intend to enjoy themselves as they share the cockpit of their 204 again this year, as they did last year, and of crossing the finish line once more.

The #peugeot 204 made #automotive history. The emblematic vehicle of the Lion Brand’s Series 2, the #peugeot 204 was the best-selling car in France from 1969 to 1971. Created by Paul Bouvot, head of the #peugeot Style department, the coupé version sold almost 43,000 units.

The #peugeot 204 took part in the Tour de France Automobile in 1971 in the 3GT category. Its modern dynamic behaviour and its innovative technology for the time enabled it to finish in a respectable 49th place overall.
