ETCR Champion CUPRA announces new partnership with EKS ahead of the 2022 FIA ETCR


-CUPRA, the world’s first all-electric multi-brand touring car series champions (2021), forms new #partnership with EKS team to fight for the 2022 FIA ETCR title
-In 2021 #cupra successfully completed the challenge it set itself in 2017: to create the first ever electric touring race car and win with it. This year the objective is no other: play to win
-CUPRA will announce on the 19th of April its new driver line-up as well as the new car livery for the FIA ETCR 2022 season

Martorell, 08-04-2022 – #cupra has formed an exciting new #partnership with EKS team to defend its all-electric touring car title this year in the new FIA ETCR all-electric Touring Car World Cup.

The announcement reinforces CUPRA’s commitment to electric #racing and a more sustainable, innovative and exciting era of motorsport.

EKS is a proven race winning team owned by the reigning Pure ETCR champion (and former DTM and FIA World RX champion) Mattias Ekström, who won the title - both manufacturers’ and drivers’ title - with #cupra last year.

Based near #avesta, 160km northwest of Stockholm in Sweden, EKS has a rich history of success in a wide variety of motorsport categories, including rallycross,rally and circuit #racing, It most recently scored a 1-2 result in the T3 category of the Dakar Rally.

Running under the new #cupra EKS name, the #partnership will continue to develop and race the #cupraeracer – the world’s first 100% electric touring car.

Powered by four electric motors on the rear axle and a 65kWh liquid-cooled battery, the #cupraeracer generates a combined maximum power output of 500kW (680 PS) and delivers maximum torque of 960Nm. The advanced electric race car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3,2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 270km/h.

Creating history by becoming the first car manufacturer to win a world championship for 100% electric touring cars, #cupra has one objective in 2022 – play to win!
