The Antonio Dalle Nogare Foundation presents its exhibition programme for 2022

The figure of the woman artist is central to the 2022 programme, as demonstrated by exhibitions devoted to the partnership of Etel Adnan and Simone Fattal, the last project curated for the Foundation by #vincenzodebellis, and the reconstruction and reactivation of Materializzazione del linguaggio (Materialisation of Language), the historic exhibition curated by Mirella Bentivoglio for the Venice Biennale in 1978, Andrea Viliani's first project for the Foundation, which he will co-curate with #cristianaperrella

Bolzano, 1 March 2022. Following the success of the exhibitions held in 2021 – from Robert Breer's Time Out to Michael Krebber's Studiofloor and Diamond Paintings and Charlotte Posenenske's From B To E And More (on until 28 May 2022) – the #fondazioneantoniodallenogare enters the year 2022 as a key cultural player in the contemporary art scene. The exhibition programme for 2022 is a statement of fresh intents aimed at turning the Bolzano-based institution into a research centre of reference for the artistic languages of our time.

Central to the programme is the woman artist, observed through the looking glass of emblematic case studies among female and feminist practices that have shaped the history of contemporary art through innovative experimentation.

In April 2022, the Foundation presents Etel Adnan & Simone Fattal: Working Together, the Italian double debut for the artist couple active since the 1970s. This is the last project curated by #vincenzodebellis for the Foundation. #andreaviliani will take over the curatorial role and his first exhibition, Ri-materializzazione del linguaggio (Re-materialisation of Language), will open October 2022. The project consists in the reconstruction and reactivation of the historic exhibition Materialisation of
Language, held in 1978 at the Venice Biennale and curated by artist, poet and performer Mirella Bentivoglio (1922-2017). Co-curated by #andreaviliani and #cristianaperrella, this will be the first group exhibition organised by the Foundation, in partnership with other local institutions including Mart – Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto, and MUSEION – The
Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Bolzano.

A thread of conceptual coherence between the first two exhibitions of the year comes across strikingly: the dialogue between art, literature, form and the word.
For the first time in a space contextually devoted to the visual arts, Etel Adnan & Simone Fattal: Working Together highlights the importance of literature and the written word in the careers of both artists. Ri-materializzazione del linguaggio (Rematerialisation of Language) significantly deepens the research carried out by 80 international artists active in the 1970s into the word-image binomial.

From 29 April to 6 November 2022 runs Etel Adnan & Simone Fattal: Working Together, curated by #vincenzodebellis. This exhibition takes the public into a dimension of intimacy by presenting the work of two great artists who have turned their romantic partnership into an integral part of their artistic practice.
The strength deriving from the multidisciplinary and literary influences with which both have been confronted throughout their lives is made tangible.

From 1 October 2022 to 3 June 2023, Ri-materializzazione del linguaggio (Re-materialisation of Language), co-curated by #andreaviliani and #cristianaperrella, proposes a philological reconstruction and contemporary re-contextualisation of Materialisation of Language, the exhibition devoted to the word-image binomial that opened in September 1978 at the Magazzini del Sale in the framework of the 39th edition of the Venice Biennale.

The group show presents a selection of the works originally exhibited in Venice in the Seventies, together with other contemporary artworks and unpublished documentary material. The language of the new display design by architect and artist Matilde Cassani will re-materialise on a regular basis through a number of new works realised especially for the occasion by contemporary women artists, in response to the exhibition concept and spatial arrangement.

Our sincere thanks for the exhibition Ri-materializzazione del linguaggio (Re-materialisation of Language) goes to Archivio Mirella Bentivoglio, Rome; Giovanni and Giuseppe Garrera, Rome; MART-Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto; Fondazione MUSEION – Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea, Bolzano.

The exhibition programme of the #fondazioneantoniodallenogare is expanded by Fondazione Live, a rich public programme starting in March 2022. On the specific occasion of Ri-materializzazione del linguaggio (Re-materialisation of Language), several re-enacting activities will take place for the entire duration of the exhibition.
