Production of Mazda CX-50 Crossover SUV starts at new U.S. plant

Mazda #cx50 spearheads major expansion of the carmaker’s global #suv line-up

Mazda Motor Corporation began production of its brand-new #mazda #cx50 #crossover #suv, targeted at the North American market, from January 18 at #mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A., Inc., a new plant jointly constructed with Toyota Motor Corporation in Huntsville, Alabama. The #cx50 is Mazda’s first vehicle to be manufactured at the plant.

With production kicking off at the new plant equipped with the latest technology developed through the shared knowledge of the two brands, #mazda has put in place a production and supply system that enables timely delivery of high-quality products to its customers.

Mazda Toyota Manufacturing (MTM) is a 50:50 joint venture between the two carmakers with an annual capacity of 300,000 vehicles (150,000 each). MTM was conceived as part of a broader Mazda-Toyota collaboration that includes the shared development of technology for electric vehicles, connected cars and advanced safety systems.

Last November, #mazda unveiled the #mazda #cx50, the all-new #suv designed exclusively for the North American market. The all-new compact #crossover, to be launched in spring this year, meets the lifestyle and needs of customers through its design that respectfully interacts with the outdoors, its strong and highly efficient powertrain in combination with an AWD system fitted across the board, and its high running stability off-road.

The all-new #mazda #cx50 comes ahead of two larger #crossover SUVs that will be launched in Europe over the next two years. The #mazda CX-60 with two rows of seating and the three-row #mazda CX-80 will mark the introduction of petrol-electric plug-in hybrid powertrains to Europe. Combining high output and low emissions, there will also be a new-generation Skyactiv-X inline six cylinder compression-ignition engine and a Skyactiv-D diesel with 48V mild hybrid systems.
