ROLEX PRESENTS THE 2022 NEW YEAR’S CONCERT AT AUSTRIA’S WIENER MUSIKVEREIN AS EXCLUSIVE PARTNER OF THE #vienna PHILHARMONIC

Vienna, 29 December 2021 – Ushering in the New Year with the beauty and brilliance of a long-standing musical tradition, the annual #vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert sponsored by #rolex will take place on 1 January 2022 at 11.15 a.m. at the Musikverein’s Golden Hall in the Austrian capital.

Rolex has been Exclusive Partner of the renowned #vienna Philharmonic since 2008 and Exclusive Sponsor of the famous New Year’s Concert since 2009, demonstrating the brand’s dedication to the arts and culture and promoting the highest level of achievement in music.

In 2022, the 82nd edition of the concert will be led by Maestro Daniel Barenboim with whom the #vienna Philharmonic has enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship. This will be the third time that he takes the podium of the popular concert and follows on from the recent participation of celebrated conductors Riccardo Muti (2021 and 2018), Andris Nelsons (2020), Christian Thielemann (2019), Gustavo Dudamel (2017) and Mariss Jansons (2016).

A showcase for the uplifting music and vast repertoire of Johann Strauss, his family and contemporaries, the much-heralded event will once again be widely broadcast on radio and television, as well as live-streamed, with millions of people in more than 90 countries expected to tune in.

2021 HIGHLIGHTS

A limited number of concerts were given over the past year due to travel restrictions. In May, the #vienna Philharmonic, with Rolex’s support, performed in Florence and Milan. In June, a #vienna Philharmonic concert presented by #rolex was held in Copenhagen. That same month, the Summer Night Concert Schönbrunn in #vienna went ahead and, in September, a concert took place in Barcelona’s La Sagrada Família – both were supported by #rolex and broadcast in more than 50 countries. Amsterdam also hosted a concert in September, streamed by medici.tv.

VIENNA PHILHARMONIC

The #vienna Philharmonic is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s most revered orchestras, upholding the greatest traditions in classical music. Founded in 1842 and with more than 175 years of artistic contribution, it is known for its individuality and lustrous sound as well as for its exacting standards, maintaining artistic integrity and communicating music’s humanitarian message around the world. Today, this is carried out by way of two notable events: the New Year’s Concert and the open-air Summer Night Concert, where, every May or June, around 100,000 people gather in the Palace and Gardens of Schönbrunn in #vienna, known as the capital city of music.
