Publication "NO FEAR OF GLASS" by Sabine Marcelis

The designer #sabinemarcelis returns to the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion to present the catalogue of her intervention “No Fear of Glass”.

The publication, with texts by #sabinemarcelis, Anna Puigjaner and Ippolito Pestellini Laparelli, photographs by Pim Top and graphic #design by Sophia Schullan, collects the result of the intervention that the artist, together with Side Gallery and the #fundaciomiesvanderrohe, presented at the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion between December 2019 and January 2020.

Through the five pieces that #sabinemarcelis designed exclusively for the Pavilion, the artist explored how the #design ideals, materiality, and the proportions with which the pavilion has been constructed can be translated into the creation of functional furniture pieces. The title of the exhibition and the publication responds to ”No Fear of Glass”, the book about Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Lilly Reich’s #barcelona Pavilion by Josep Quetglas. Mies van der Rohe was famously asked to not use too much glass in the Pavilion and Marcelis’ works in turn are produced from glass, pushing the materials limits to the extreme.“Sabine Marcelis meets Mies van der Rohe and Reich in one of the most iconic and exemplary spaces of modern architecture. Laparelli"No Fear of Glass" becomes the fourth publication published this year by the #fundaciomiesvanderrohe and joins the collection of more than fifty catalogs that includes, in addition to the interventions carried out in the Mies van der Rohe Pavilion, the intense activity of the Fundació in relation to awards, exhibitions and symposia.
